Why the Notting Hill Carnival hasn't been banned

"Since 11 August some 290 people have been arrested for various offences and 190 knives and 18 firearms have been recovered as part of an operation to prevent crime at the Notting Hill Carnival."

I've said it before and i'll say it again, the whole thing is just a poor man's Lewisham people's day

Unfortunately the Met has cocked up here releasing these stats.

Turns out these were London-wide figures with not so much to do with the NHC but the demographic of the kind of people the Met associate with Notting Hill. One arrest was recorded being over an hour away from the carnival. What linked the perp and Notting Hill? Ask the Met.

I had to laugh at work the other day when speaking to an IT provider in India that said he had called a colleague "thrice without response".

To be honest I don't really care about the carnival but the Met is opening themselves up to all sorts of trouble by associating every crime made by a certain demographic in the weeks leading up to the carnival as associated with the carnival.

Well that depends, do the Met publicise how many tattooed skinheads within a 20 mile radius they have arrested 3 weeks before every Millwall game?

No smoke without fire though and gangs in the UK now are predominately black. Take a look at the link below re Birminghams latest troubles

No, but they have done before international matches many times.

It's more the implication that every gang member they arrest within the M25 was definitely going to be going to the Carnival.

The Carnival is trying to shake off the stigma associated with it. The police claiming that every arrest by the demographic associated with the Carnival is making the Carnival safer is not helping that and opens them up to certain allegations.

If the Met tweeted how many people associated with the hooligan demographic had been arrested 3 weeks before a Wembley game then maybe there'd be some equivalence.

When is the last time there was a single arrest at an England home game, let alone for the seriousness of the crimes related to NHC (knifes etc).

In say the last 5 years, how many people have attended England home games in that time? And how many arrests? Genuinely think it would be next to none, which is no surprise given the demographic of those who attend these days.

How the secure online code doesn't work for us when we try to make online purchases, but it lets fraudsters fleece the account through 2 card transactions for over 1000 Euros.
