Are you saying there's more to come of SK's original story ?stonemuse said:IT was good.
Stayed fairly faithful to the book, the kids are all excellent actors, Pennywise portrayed well.
Looking forward to chapter two.

If you fancy a giggle (not in a good way), watch Operation Dunkirk. Also released this year.
Absolutely sensationally terrible.1 -
The film only covers the first half of the book when they are kids.Fanny Fanackapan said:

Cheers @Nadou . I fancied this one (I love boring pretentious rubbish) but it's practically disappeared and is only on at a local arts centre in a couple of weeks. I might brave the right-on crowd and go anyway on your recommendation.Nadou said:Saw A Ghost Story last week. I loved it and found it intriguing, unusual and very moving. The person I went with thought it was boring, pretentious rubbish.

Saw IT this afternoon & loved it !
Shades of Stranger Things/Stand By Me but needs to be viewed on its own merits.
About to Google when we can expect Chapter 2 ....hope it's not too long to wait.
BTW ( spoiler alert?) did anyone spot the casual mention of "turtle" ?2 -
Saw Baby Driver tonight, really enjoyed it, quality soundtrack, some cracking dialogue, visually great to look at and not a super hero in sight. 8/100

I take it from those comparisons that it's not at all scary ?
For me the original film was all about how terrifying Pennywise was .0 -
Assumed that was the reference yep...and there's also the Lego turtle too.Fanny Fanackapan said:

TBH, I didn't find Pennywise too scary on the whole apart from a couple of "oh shit!" moments.Bedsaddick said:

But for me, it's the terrifying experiences the kids encounter that make it a horror film, and a good one at that.0 -
Not a new film but I have just finished watching Anchorman what a distinctly below average comedy I literally laughed more in the break up conversation I had with my ex wife!1
-
Anchorman does struggle to live up to its swollen reputation but I wouldn't consider it below average.
Now have I missed something with Stephen King and turtles???0 -

Just watched Lion on DVD.
Pleased I didn't spend a tenner at the cinema. Whole story would fit in a tweet with characters to spare.0 -
I think the comparison with Stand By Me is very valid as both films cover similar, "coming of age", wisecracking buddys, ground and look and feel very similar...and they're both from SK books of course. But that's no bad thing in my opinion. As with the books they are both driven by the development of the kids characters, their backgrounds, dreams and fears set against some pretty dark subject matter. I think with some exceptions this is where adaptations of some of his books have missed the mark in the past.Fanny Fanackapan said:

Baby Driver - not one that will live long in the memory but entertaining escapism and a good sound track.
The Big Sick - an enjoyable mix of humour and poignancy, with a good turn from Holly Hunter.0 -
Loved IT.
Saw it tonight as the missus set up a cinema night after a stressful week at work. She hates horrors and only did it as she knows I am a massive King fan.
Shows what a deep story it has beyond a scary clown that she came out saying how she loved it and that it reminded her of bits of Stand By Me and The Goonies.
Wish it had been in the 50s like the book but they did integrate the 80s well - and it allows them to bring he 2018 chapter 2 into a contemporary age1 -
If anyone liked "Hell or High Water," the same writer/producer and director have a new one out, "Wind River." Stars Jeremy Renner and Elizabeth Olsen, I saw it and liked it more than HOHW, so those who liked that will probably really like the new one. Very similar moviemaking sensibility and delivery.
The same director also wrote "SIcario" a couple of years ago and that movie is incredible and I can't recommend it highly enough. Stars Emily Blunt and an incredible performance by Benicio del Toro.3 -
I haven't seen teh new one but Curry was brilliant in that role and I did think it would be tough to emulate that!PopIcon said:
I thought the new version looked a bit shite. Curry's Pennywise is terrifying, the new one looks a bit too polished.JiMMy 85 said:IT looks good. As much as Tim Curry nailed Pennywise, it was a fairly cheap TV miniseries so the movie is very welcome.
Sadly, it sounds like Dark Tower might be going a bit wrong. The studio may have bottled it.
Hopefully the new version will have the end sorted out. Always pissed me off.0 -
Thanks @NapaAddick. I really enjoyed HOHW and have this one earmarked for next week.NapaAddick said:If anyone liked "Hell or High Water," the same writer/producer and director have a new one out, "Wind River."
