Who is better the Stones or the Beatles was, is and always will be the wrong question. The right question is, who was better the Monkees or The Kinks? If you're a school kid the answer should be The Monkees as they were an entertainment force the likes of which had never been seen before (despite being totally manufactured). If you're an adult the answer should be The Kinks as they wrote better songs than the other 60s/70s groups put together, with the possible exception of Pink Floyd.0 -

yes the Kinks wrote great songs. Not sure how Pink Floyd got in there but this month's Uncut magazine has the top 30 Pink Floyd songs.
I like the Monkees too but they never did Waterloo Sunset0 -
