In place of Lampard, he's still crap & was our weakest player last night.
  • i thought lampard done all right , bombing around steaming into tackles and as ever not afraid to have a shot at goal...

    You serious Polo?!

I'm not an admirer of Lampard for England as he's just not produced enough regularly for me.

Thought he had a very good game last night though and if his goal had stood (which it should have) that would have capped it off fantastically.

I thought that was better then Munich, Croatia are a better team for starters, and the Germany went silly chasing goals that night, we just outplayed them in every department.

Cappello got them playing like a Premiership side, high tempo, high press, loaded with pace, even the formation was pure Chelsea/Man U stuff, one up front with the midfield and supporting strikers playing havoc from deep.

And the back 4 was the key, at Wembley it was Lescot and Campbell, last night Rio and Terry showed why they are an excellent pair, and Cole and Brown did their jobs well.

Serious I am indeed. Gave away so many passes in the first half, was afraid to push the ball forward into Heskey & Rooney and kept playing sideways.

Better second half & lovely goal if it had counted, but when was the last time we've seen Lampard play like that?

Lampard showed some ability I didn't even know he had when he stuck that goal in. Shame it was disallowed. He is the Jerome Thomas of the England team, though. Rio Ferdinand should be praised for his run that set-up one of the goals (can't remember which). All in all everyone was pretty good! We looked like a well-settled, incredibly talented continental side, very pleasing.

Does anyone else think that they should just superglue David James boots to the goal line? :)
  • Gerard won't come in for Barry.

Surely Capello realises Gerard and Lampard can't play together?

If he comes back into the side it would have to be at the expense of Lampard with either Barry or Hargreaves (if fit) in the holding role

[cite]Posted By: BlackForestReds[/cite]I thought the first goal was offside - I think Rooney and one other were in an offside position when the ball was played originally (I was watching on a less than perfect streaming tv site), although Walcott was on-side when he took the goal, so maybe that balances out Lampard's disallowed goal.

Maybe in a different thread you can explain the off side rule because I have not got a clue. The days of explaining the offside rule to the wife with a salt pot, pepper pot and a few other bits and pieces on the kitchen table are long gone, now I have to try and explain about active and in active spice jars etc.

I am surprised that successive England managers have not picked up that not only are Lampard and Gerrard too similar but Barry as well. They all mainly pass the ball and are good shots, none carry the ball or dribble and while they do tackle they prefer to block. If one of these guys is to play, his partner needs to be able to go past players and to get stuck in. Hargreaves, Parker and Bullard would all suit and personally I'd give up on FL, SG and GB and pick two of these three.

First goal wasn't offside. Original pass was cut out by a defender - assistant keeps his flag down correctly, defender proceeds to pummel ball at other defender - ball drops to Walcott - assistant keeps his flag down. 110% onside from somone who knows!

Fine performance by the team, well pleased for the supporters who made the trip, excellent support for the team yet again. Have not heard what their Manager had to say yet but looking forward to hearing it. Not sure where this Lampard was awesome comes from watched the game with Medders & did not know he was playing until the second half when to be fair he was much better. At the end of the day it was only one game & three points, be interesting to see how many more people buy tickets for the next game Khazakstan, we had already bought ours before last nights game.

I'm not disputing that Walcott was on-side - no problems there, it just looked like as the original pass was made that Rooney was off-side, but the picture quality on my streaming video site was less than perfect and I had the screen size of a postcard. Whatever the goal stoodand all's well in the world.

Saw Lampard during the national anthem and didnt see him again until the 2nd half. Definitely England's weakest link last night...

I thought Lampard looked nervous at the start and mis-placed a few passes, and under hita free kick or two. He did put in some good work and played better and better as the game progressed.

There is no way that Capello will replace Barry with Gerrard. I read somewhere that when asked which player has (pleasantly) surprised you the most and he replied "Barry" without any hesitation. It's not hard to see why to be fair. If Gerrard is to return, it will be at the expense of Lampard and frankly, it would be unfair to Lampard based on last nights performance. Given the choice before this game, I would have plummed for Gerrard ahead of Frank but now I'd stick with him. To be honest my concern with Gerrard is the one spouted by Carragher in his recent book, namely does he really enjoy playing for England. I don't think he does and until this changes, we will never see the best side of him.
