Solly interview

Not a scientific analysis, but it's notable that Solly in the CL Stats for the season is easily the lowest ranked defender, indeed the lowest ranked player out of those who've played a significant number of games. For someone who was a regular POTY winner and contender, that's a sad indication of his decline.Scoham said:
I'd question whether a lot of our squad are good enough for the Championship including Solly.killerandflash said:
I agree he shouldn't be club captain, but disagree that he's past it alreadySheedyCAFC said:Unpopular opinion but he should not be club captain. Wish we could sign a right back who was a bit faster and better at attacking. Sentimental Solly is past it already.
I do worry whether Solly would now be good enough in the Championship if we were promoted, but that's a problem for the future...1 -
why didn't he play on Tuesday night, after the match KR mentioned the 7 injured players by name and "Sols" wasn't one of them.0

Favourite Solly moment? For me it was away at Orient when Solly got the 3rd in a 3-1 win. I was so pissed that I was convinced Akpo Sodje had scored! Great day out.1

Never forget the screamer he unleashed when we played Blackpool away, would love a few more of those!1

Have to admit... the other times he's tried to replicate I do wonder if we had an imposter at Blackpool that dayMendonca In Asdas said:Never forget the screamer he unleashed when we played Blackpool away, would love a few more of those!
Sometimes his shooting is something that gives a few laughs0 -
Solly is suffering from familiarity. When he burst onto the scene in 2011 he was fresh and new and he was home-grown. He's really not playing any worse now than over the past few years but we're used to it. The 2ft right back putting in crunching tackles is par for the course and it doesn't surprise anyone anymore, and that lack of feeling of leaving a game being amazed at Chris Solly makes people think he's got much worse. The reality is we should be thanking our lucky stars; it wasn't that long ago he was missing months of the season, and even less long ago that we needed to rotate another right back in every other game because he couldn't handle two games in a week.
He still makes tackles, he still puts crosses in, he never really overlapped his winger regularly - which is fine because at the level we play you generally want the balance of one overlapping and one not, which is what Wiggins and Dasilva are for - and he can be trusted to have a decent game, sometimes excellent. All reports also indicate that he's an excellent captain, being brilliant with players outside of matches, supporting those who haven't had good games and helping new players settle. The idea that a captain has to shout on the pitch is an insane one, as if a team can't be organised if there isn't a nutcase with an armband doing hand signals5 -
I still think Silly is a very good player and has attracted some unfair criticism. Very composed player and has good positional sense. We look poorer when he doesn't play.

No discredit to Konsa but Peterborough would have been less dangerous if Maddison had to deal with Solly instead1

A relief that along with being silly he has some sensehoof_it_up_to_benty said:I still think Silly is a very good player and has attracted some unfair criticism. Very composed player and has good positional sense. We look poorer when he doesn't play.
