It's inevitable those stripey bastards will claw their way out of it, even when that lost their first seven games without scoring a goal there was never a considerable gap between them & safety. My first thought was that the dog has just as much chance of success than any other manager they could choose, but was then struck by the saying that owners start to look like their dogs is so apt in this case.Stig said:0 -

He's had great success as a coach and was very highly thought of when Derby appointed him. He was sacked when Derby, perennial bottlers, were 5th and 5 points off the top of the Championship, and they ended up 5th and 15 points of the top. They finished the next season 9th. Swansea had a net spend of -£20m this summer, which is insane for a team that has spent the previous two seasons in a relegation scrap, and the players they did sign have been absolute howlers; Roque Mesa (£11m) who has made three Premier League appearances, Sam Clucas (£15m) despite him not fitting into their playing style and Wilfried Bony (£12m) who had scored 6 Premier League goals in two seasons. He also needed a full pre-season, so of course they signed him on deadline day. To the surprise of no-one he is now injured. Abraham and Sanches were Clement's choices, and Sanches has been a total letdown, but Abraham has done alright given his lack of support.
They also sold all his best players; Sigurdsson contributed to more than half of Swansea's goals last season with goals and assists, and they sold Jack Cork and Fernando Llorente. Those three were essentially Swansea's only decent players. This season's signings also aren't the only ones that have been terrible. Their record signing is Borja Baston (18 PL appearances, 1 goal, currently out on loan). Ever since Swansea sold so much of their stake to the Americans, profit has been valued over the consistency and careful planning that got them to where they are. Paul Clement isn't perfect, but I don't think there's a single manager who could have made a decent fist of this season given the way the club's run. They're going to go the way of Sunderland unless something drastically changes soon.7 -

Sooner or later Mark Bowen will have to be surgically removed from Mark Hughes.
Probably too much at stake for Swansea to let him cut his teeth as a number 1 though.0
