Will we be a better team without Ricky?

I'm one of his biggest fans. But is it possible to be a better team without him? It sounds like Reeves had a better game today. Please discuss

I think just lately, especially with Fosu out injured,we have been very predictable. Give the ball to Holmes and let him run with it seemed to be the mantra. Other teams soon sussed it,double marked him and we looked a bit devoid of creativity. Difficult to say if we will be a better team without him but maybe we wont be any worse if its possible to say that after losing our best player?2

No, was our best player.
That said, I think Fosu showed some signs that he could be as good.2 -
Only if you promise us the Takeover will happen next week and we’ll be considerably richer than yaaaaaaaaw (Man City).Redhenry said:I'm one of his biggest fans. But is it possible to be a better team without him? It sounds like Reeves had a better game today. Please discuss

It depends who we replace with.
Let’s be clear about this, Holmes was our go to player with the ball. Always showing, never hiding. He would receive five times the amount of ball a game than Marshall, for example.
Other teams knew this, and it was a clear tactic of them to double up on Holmes as they knew he was the most likely one to do damage. I may well,be that Malvididi becomes the focus for that if he is played wide.
So we will have to see imo. The comparator should be the early season form when everyone was fit and not the last couple of months.
Worth remembering a similar conversation when a Parker left and we won the next game away at Everton. The rest of the season went on to prove, yes, we did miss Parker.7 -
Yes. Rather than just panic playing it to Ricky and hoping for the best, our players will utilise more team mates.5

We played the worst team in the league so hard to judge.
We did often play through Holmes too often but that was because he always made himself available and was often our best player.
But one man doesn't make a team.2 -
If he's not replaced, absolutely not.0

Ricky could be a match winner.
A speculative 30 yard goal right out of the blue, or just unpredictability and determination, could nick all 3 points.
And there were times when it did.
But he often ran himself into blind alleys, trying to do too much himself and unawareness of team mates around him.
Take nothing away from Ricky - good player and plenty of effort.
Not really a team player though. We might just be a better team (Curbs': the whole is greater than the sum of parts) without him, especially with our passing game. But nevertheless a very useful player to have around.

He's the one player we HAVE replaced. Mavididi is his direct replacement. We've still not added to Magennis, is the problemLazy_eye_metaphor said:If he's not replaced, absolutely not.

Good player at this level and probably good enough for lower Champ so he's 100% replaceable.
The problem is, Roland won't.0 -

At the moment, no way. You can’t be better off when your best player has gone and no sign of a replacement. Hopefully somebody else can step up.....and probably be sold.

Evidently a very popular fella and a great character in the dressing room......so will be a loss in more ways than one, an important feature which should not be overlooked.4

How can we be better without our most creative player and biggest goal-scorer? Wishful thinking....2

No.
If we maintain our play-off position it will be a case of 'in spite of' rather than 'because of'
6 goals and 7 assists from midfield tell their own story3 -
Yes.0

He's no Robert Lee (my hero) and we replaced him with John Robinson who was probably more hard working but Roland wont replace Holmes0
-
As good as Ricky is there will be others coming and going every bit as good as him,we might be more of a team without him0

How about Stephen Ireland, will he do as a replacement?i_b_b_o_r_g said:No man is an island
