CARD to demand answers at pre-match rally on Saturday (ed. POSTPONED )

Charlton fans will demand answers about the club’s immediate future by rallying outside The Valley’s west stand before Saturday’s home match against Walsall.
The Coalition Against Roland Duchatelet (CARD) is asking Addicks supporters to assemble outside main reception by 2.15pm, when they will call on director Richard Murray to come out and address them. CARD wants a pledge that a significant part of the cash from player sales during the January transfer window will be reinvested in replacements.
Charlton sold winger Ricky Holmes to Sheffield United for a reported £400,000 this week and are expected to conclude a £4m deal for defender Ezri Konsa to move to Everton before the end of the month.
Murray said in a club statement on Monday that no fees would be reinvested because Charlton are in takeover discussions, but gave no indication of when or if these talks might be successfully concluded.
He is one of only two Addicks directors following the departure of chief executive Katrien Meire in December. The other is owner Duchatelet, a Belgian businessman, who last attended a game in 2014.
A CARD spokesperson said: “We need to hear from Richard Murray about the club’s immediate future. He said four years ago when Duchatelet took over that he would be responsible for the relationship with the fans and that he would speak on behalf of the board when appropriate. We feel it is only fair that we should give him the opportunity to do so.
“At the weekend manager Karl Robinson promised a takeover update this week, but there was nothing new about that in Murray’s latest comments.
“Holmes has gone and Konsa is likely to follow. We don’t expect Duchatelet to put in extra funds this month, but it can’t be right that the squad is weakened with no guarantee of a takeover. It makes no sense even in terms of getting the best price for the club, because he is making Robinson’s job of securing promotion more and more difficult.
”We want a guarantee that if Konsa goes without a takeover then a significant part of the fee will be made available to Robinson to strengthen the team. We also want a timeline for takeover negotiations with clarity about whether a deal is possible or likely before the end of January. We urge all concerned fans to come and hear what Murray has to say."
The spokesperson went on: “We have not staged any protests this season because we have been aware of takeover moves and did not want to do anything that might have affected a possible promotion push. The club has now damaged that prospect itself, so we are giving notice that the period of truce is over.
“We will not be organising anything inside the stadium on Saturday, but the gloves are coming off. Unless the situation is resolved, this is likely to be the start of an escalating series of lawful protests, both at The Valley and in Belgium. It’s now up to Murray to explain why that shouldn’t be the case.”

Love it.0

Its not even that big of a request. Just be honest Murray and stop hiding.14
-
good stuff, fully agree.
Unfortunately have made other arrangements for Saturday but will be there in spirit.0 -
if we lose I will personally hold this pre match call to meet Murray as the reason we lost , it's all CARD's fault but if we win well done Roland and
KatrienMuzza22 -
No chance he will come out and talk to us imo6
-
We'll be there even if it means only one glass beforehand.
Sadly, this sounds as though CARD are confident there'll be no imminent good news of the takeover .
Wear your black & white with pride, guys.3 -
If he’s still proper Charlton he will be having a pre-match drink at that time and he will say fuck ‘em, they can wait whilst I have another one.blackpool72 said:No chance he will come out and talk to us imo

Most people would like to know.1 -
Not sure this will be particularly helpful to be honest!1
-
Maybe Karl can bring him into the car park when he carries out his weekly chat.29
-
It wont happen.2

"Mr Murray, would you like to go out and talk to the angry mob?"
"No thanks. I'll have another glass of wine though."16 -
I will be there2

As much as I have supported CARD I really can't see the point. What happens when he does not come outside?
I think that what he said before was clear as far as any action/inaction in the transfer window. Murray has no say in any decisions that are made so he can't be expected to give any assurances.9 -

Quite. The chances of Murray addressing an angry crowd is slim, but CARD obviously know that.colthe3rd said:"Mr Murray, would you like to go out and talk to the angry mob?"

Presumably, it a tactic to put the heat on Murray to encourage him to put the heat on RD to sell up asap.30 -
What may happen is it forces him into making a statement before Saturday. Unfortunately it is likely to be a statement that tells us nothing. I really want to get an understanding of whether the takeover is imminent or likely to happen at all. I honestly, haven't got a clue, but I know Duchatelet is mad and his price is going to be unrealistic so not sure how a takeover will happen under those conditions - we all know there are interested parties, but that isn't a totally new thing.5
-
Video makes it sound like this has been arranged and Murray has agreed to come out and speak.
Is that the case?2 -
By saying nothing and not appearing, Murray would effectively be shouting his 2-fingered answer from the rooftops, and it would be very poor PR for him. I suspect the crowd would let him know their feelings during the match.
More likely to give out a statement (which probably says nothing) via a club spokesperson.
I think it is high time to demonstrate the protesters have not gone away; this situation could have a while to run and there may yet be many twists and turns before a satisfactory conclusion is reached.14 -
"We want a guarantee that if Konsa goes without a takeover then a significant part of the fee will be made available to Robinson to strengthen the team."
We've already been told as recently as yesterday that no funds will be made available, so this is never going to happen.
"We also want a timeline for takeover negotiations with clarity about whether a deal is possible or likely before the end of January"
This is pointless. Even if RM did come out and meet people and say "yes a deal is possible", he's got absolutely no way of knowing for certain. All this would do is get peoples hopes up, when (as we all know) an interested party could pull out at any time for any reason.5 -
What power does Murray have? It's not as if RD has paid much attention to the fans beforehand...Covered End said:

I imagine Murray will put out a statement stating that negotiations are ongoing, the details are confidential, not wanting to reveal information that might derail them etc1 -
It may not happen, but it is hugely embarrassing for Murray to be pushed to the front like this if he is angling for a continued board position with any new owners.6
-
Doubt he'll be there, because I've just heard he's recently formed a combo with the Perk's. Muzza and the Brown Nose Trio, available for weddings, funerals and League 2 football matches next season.0

Quite. We should have been targeting Murray two years ago .
And with the same vitriol we held for the Belgians.
Seems pretty futile now to be honest.2 -
Well done CARD for putting a bit of pressure on RM but I think the following statement is going a bit too far.
"We want a guarantee that if Konsa goes without a takeover then a significant part of the fee will be made available to Robinson to strengthen the team. We also want a timeline for takeover negotiations with clarity about whether a deal is possible or likely before the end of January"
CARD have zero chance of a "guarantee" any transfer money will be given to KR to strengthen and equally a timeline for takeover negotiations.4
