Ricky Miller

Peterborough United owner Darragh MacAnthony says striker Ricky Miller is "driving me mad" by turning down chances to leave the League One club.
Miller, 28, joined from Dover last summer but has not scored in 13 games.
"It hasn't worked out, we see value in him, all these clubs see value in him," MacAnthony told BBC Cambridgeshire.
"He'd prefer a move closer to home - typical footballers - but I'm not willing to do that, the club closer to home isn't even competing financially.
"Ricky's turned down about five different clubs. He's turning loads of them down and it's driving me mad because he's not going to get game time here.
"If he's going to base it on geography and whatever else he's in the wrong industry - if you're going to base moves on geography being a football player, don't play football."
Charlton fit the criteria for "the club closer to home"
1. We need a CF
2. We are not competing financially
3. He cannot hit a cow's arse with a banjo at Div One level. Just the type of striker we like to sign.

"On 5 November 2017 Miller was arrested and later charged with assaulting a police officer, using threatening behaviour and failing to provide a specimen. He appeared in magistrates court on 22 November 2017 [40] and a trial date was set for 30 April 2018. He was granted unconditional bail."0

And he got a six-month ban for biting while with Dover.0

Leaving aside the arrests etc, I can't agree with their chairman - they gave him a contract, he's perfectly entitled to stay there until a move he wants (for personal/family reasons) comes up, rather than be told he's has to move to whichever team offers Peterborough the most money regardless of where it is.

Where exactly is closer to home for him? In the last 5 years he's been at Boston, Luton, Dover and Peterborough?0 -
Isnt Dover home for him? and therefore Gillngham fits the bill better.
He's not scored in 13 games - but he's still being picked.1 -

What a pair of bad boys. Nile always preferred to play in a 4-5-1. The Lone Ranger.Arry Addick said:

MacAnthony took a punt and it hasn’t worked out - tough shit get over it. If he’d turned into a superstar he’d be only too willing to rake it in.
Take the rough with the smooth sunshine.16 -
If they are that desperate to get rid then make him an offer to terminate his contract, stop holding out for a fee3

Another human being having a say what they do with their life rather than meekly submitting to what is best for their employer who no doubt has them under an agreed contract.golfaddick said:Another player dictating terms shock.
Good for him3 -
Peterboro fans had a dislike for him when we drew 2-2, he was up our end of the pitch and instead of taking it to the corner flag he attempted some ridiculous shot on goal that Amos collected easily.
Ball then goes up the other end and KAG gets the equaliser.1 -
Has he played for MK Dons before?3

Utter bollocks from the owner. I'm sure Miller isn't the first and certainly won't be the last to base any potential move on geography. Just this week Sturridge signed for West Brom over Newcastle so he could be nearer family in the midlands.1 -

The owner/chairman/manager whatever, was stupid enough to give the bloke a 3 year contract. He’s spent most of his career slugging it in non-league football, he’s within every right to dictate what happens to him whilst he’s on a contract. He’s not getting any younger and is looking for the best decision for his family. How anyone can put blame at the players feet in all this is a joke.5 -

If he's worth a punt.
About time we bought ankle biters not crochet champions.0 -
Can't agree with the Chairman here to be honest. He offered him a contract and no player should be forced to move somewhere they don't especially at this level where you don't exactly earn the money to tied you over for life.0

MacAnthony is an absolute bellend, swaggers around giving it big ones instead of helping Peterborough climb the leagues, they've nearly had the squad multiple times capable of getting promoted, this year being no exception but instead he would rather put all his players in the shop window by constantly telling people how willing to sell he is. The likes of Mackail-Smith, McLean, Bennett, Tomlin, Assombalonga, Gayle & Washington. Now his next players to sell are Maddison & Marriott0

I think the owner is wrong about the Miller issue but can't agree with your post. He's had Peterborough either in the championship or as a top half league one club for a good 8-9 seasons now. Which is pretty good going given they get crowds of about 6k.Pelling1993 said:MacAnthony is an absolute bellend, swaggers around giving it big ones instead of helping Peterborough climb the leagues, they've nearly had the squad multiple times capable of getting promoted, this year being no exception but instead he would rather put all his players in the shop window by constantly telling people how willing to sell he is. And most of the players you've mentioned are plucked from non league and then sold on at a decent profit, that's how they survive, which is a pretty good base for running a club to be honest.0 -

He does like to think he’s ‘the good guy’ on Twitter but in this case he’s made himself look a right cock.0

They had a clip from Harry Redknapp on Talksport this morning saying how having received a totally over the top bid for a player, he wanted to sell him only for the player to say he really didn't want to move. In the end, Harry said he practically pushed him onto a plane upto Manchester to get the deal done. (The clip can be played via their website
https://talksport.com/football/transfer-news-january-2018-deadline-day-live-blog-done-deals-breaking-stories-and-rumours-0 - sorry, don't know how to post it here).
Maybe the Peterboro Chairman should try a similar tactic.0 -
Agree with this. McAnthony's views are often forthright, and sharp. Sometimes his views are a bit too transparent. Here he's a bit messy in his thoughts and contradictory, but clearly still trying to apply value to Miller. Virtually every forward they sell well loses value. Can think of only 'our own' George Boyd who did really well.Chris_from_Sidcup said:

Peterborugh's MO for years has been to sign 2-4 non league strikers cheaply or on a free and see if they come good. No doubt Miller signed for decent wages as he was free and hot property. If they're not sending him on loan to lower leagues, like they usually do, clearly there is serious misgivings about him: either talent or temperament. Not to be touched unless you got him on loan and even then a League 2 club, as for us Good God No No No......
Here McAnthony is so transparent. He wants rid before the court case. Yet surely he can sack him if the court case goes against Miller? Why would anyone else take him? Is he just putting pressure on so he can save 3 months of wages? Seems like it would be just simpler loaning him like they usually do.0 -
I read it that thry've even had an offer Miller would accept but Peterborough are pushing him in the direction of clubs offering more.Kap10 said:If they are that desperate to get rid then make him an offer to terminate his contract, stop holding out for a fee
Should just accept the lower bid and get rid.0 -
Barry Fry has been known to sell the occasional player in his time.
May well have taught this other bloke everything he knows.1
