At the Gillingham game at Priestfield, they were thrown at the Gills keeper.

Personally, I was taught not to throw explosive pyrotechnics at anyone.

Good thing that no explosive pyrotechnics were used then.

They were not flares that burn at hundreds of degrees. They were smoke bombs which you can hold whole they go off and they won't burn you. Other than the asthma question there is no danger from them.

Someone lobbed a smoke bomb at Millwall and it landed at my feet. It wasn't hot at all. I picked it up and threw it on the pitch.

Same here, I threw mine at a woman steward though.

Well its Monday and I am still buzzing .. Took my son who can rarely get to games and loved every minute of it. Still partially lost my voice and as we live on the Isle of Wight it was a far more pleasant trip back on the boat with plenty of Pompey fans than could have expected if we had lost ..... Bring on Blackburn.

One of my work colleagues is a pompey season ticket holder, he messaged me last night and said our fans were awesome today, the best and loudest they had seen all season.

That's great hope a few of the knuckleheads that go and prevent others from attending were not there....apart from the idiot with the flares.

There was a massive pat down operation when I went in, including the older fans, so I’m amazed people managed to smuggle in flares. A bit worried where they hid them actually!

Went to Wimbledon last year and anyone who went to that game will tell you how many times we had to show our ticket, got searched before we went in. To my amazement a guy next to me drank about 4 cans of fosters during the match. When i asked him how the hell he got them in, he just showed me his jacket which had about 10 pockets in and was adapted to put things in the back of his jacket in the lining..

That’s incredible dedication to drinking pissy lager! Fair play, I guess?

Fans remained in the stadium to celebrate after the Todorov winner at palarse, and the playoff first leg at Swindon without any trouble. It should have been the same at Pompey.

From what I saw the guy in white went into a bit of frenzy throwing punches at two big stewards, they suddenly steppe back and apart, allowing the female steward through the game and the grab came after a missed punch at the retreating stewards. If it was deliberate (i.e. he saw a woman and thought he'd grab her) then it was pretty amazing reflexes and clear thought for somebody who a second before appeared to have lost it in a series of head down wild swings.

The other point to note is that she was on her feet talking to her colleagues for a good five minutes before laying down for no apparent reason. I'd hope she wasn't feigning injury to make any charges worse.

This all stared because the stewards got heavy handed with a guy standing on a seat, doing no harm to anyone, and then his mate (presumably) waded in. I could see no reason for the stewards to have got involved originally, Nobody was trying to get onto the pitch, so the best course would have been to let the guy get on with it and if he'd fallen off the seat then more fool him.

Your last couple of paragraphs are bang on. I read an article (can't remember where) a while back which was written by someone who had policed a lot of games in his time. He was also a massive football fan and went to a lot of games.
He basically said that the majority of stewards aren't football fans and simply see fans as the enemy and hooligans.

His basic point was that police and stewards at football create more problems for themselves than they need to. They should take a step back. When fans are celebrating a goal or a win they go everywhere - there may be a bit of spillover onto the concrete between the stand and the pitch - let it happen. Take a step back and give them a minute. When it all dies down they will naturally go back to where they were before. Only intervene if they make an active effort to go on the pitch or cause trouble, or bot get back in the stand a few mins after a goal.

He said they only create problems by treating fans like a rabble that need to be penned in.

He's bang on in my view.
