Outsung us in the stands and outplayed us on the pitch. Kept Pitman and Lowe quiet all game and any team that does that nullifies any and all of the threat we have.
You should go up, from what I have seen, better than the other 3 teams occupying the play offs.
Good luck for the rest of the season!1 -

My wife and I had one encounter with Hughes. Man Utd had just won the title at Southampton and they were staying at the Hilton near Eastleigh as they were at QPR on the Monday night. We bumped into a few of the team and they were all very pleasant, even Steve Bruce when I thanked him for the pen he'd given away at Selhurst a week or so before, but we were in the bar when Hughes walked in and belched a couple of times and thought it very funny. Took a dislike to him straight away.bobmunro said:
They deserve all they get for appointing Hughes. Trust me - I know!!Howells said:
Not sure they've had much to smile about since appointing Mark Hughes.AddicksAddict said:
Those would have been the Southampton supporters amongst the boys in blue?Macronate said:Fair play mate.
That away end certainly provides for a good atmosphere.
Your local police were top drawer, knew how to talk to the fans and a lot of them had smiles on their faces.
What a shame after they did so well to get out f league 1 and back into the premier league.0 -

I have been a Charlton supporter for over 40 years but gave up supporting them last week and became a Portsmouth supporter.
Can I just say that you Charlton fans were amazing, the best in the league, maybe the world. Your team deserve promotion and if I wasn't a Portsmouth supporter, I would definitely support the Addicks, in fact I may switch back to them later today.
Can I now have 150 likes?24 -
Back in the mid 70s went to the FA cup 3rd round replay at Fratton, we won 3-0. Very scary walk back to the station, thePompey hard boys were out to take revenge! Old bill escorted us onto the London train, as soon as the train started to pull out we were all up leaning out the windows giving it large to the Pompey boys on the platform. Great night!1

My first match at Fratton Park was on 28 Dec 65 Pompey 3-1 CAFC.
Billy Bonds scored an own goal in 18 secs with a back-pass. The goalie John Surman, who was making his debut, came out to gather the ball which unfortunately gently trickled past him into the net. I think it was his only first-team appearance.
The next season Charlton won 2-1 at Pompey thanks to an unbelievable performance by Eddie Firmani, an absolute master-class.

Some clubs get it. The likes of Arsenal, Man U
and Chelsea don’t. Remember Brighton and Coventrry.0 -
I think I went to that one, too. Certainly went to a 2-1 win at Pompey.addick05 said:Remember going to see an evening game at Fratton Park and sure we won 2-1and Colin Walsh scored? So long ago - 1993?

Drove down for that one...was it 83?E-cafc said:We do have a pretty decent record there. Only remember one tonking for us down there. A 0.4 Boxing Day defeat. Pretty sure Mark Hateley scored at least one for them that day.

That was a night game. There was a big crowd because they were selling FA Cup semi final tickets on the night. Bolder saved a penalty up our end, might have been from John Beresford. Then second half we went 0.1 down but Leaburn and David Whyte scored to win it for us.
We did also win 2.1 down there the following season I think.0 -

Between those two 2 1 wins was a 1 0 loss to a Guy Whittingham goal . It was the season he got about 50 goals and Pompey failed to go up despite getting 90 odd points. I remember all this vividly but couldn't tell you any results from last season at all.E-cafc said:That was a night game.
