  • I suppose to be fair we'd have to compare after 36 games, but it's certainly looking fairly clear cut isn't it.
  • For a more direct comparison;

Robinsons first 9 of this season (league 1 only)

    Goals for 14
    Goals against 12
    Avg goals for 1.56
    Avg goals against 1.33

    Total points 16

So in that context the goals against is even worse. Obviously it went down a little over the next 27 games but that's still pretty dramatic, the goals for is exactly the same interestingly, and Bowyer has taken an extra 3 points with 19 .

Worth considering it is largely recognised we had a good start to the season and these stats are from before all the injuries really kicked in.

Bowyer has completely turned the defence around, as in, transformed it from under KR.

1.22 vs 1.56 could end up levelling out a bit after 36 games.

But 0.44 vs 1.28 is an absolutely monstrous gap for goals conceded.
Especially when you consider Bowyer has had to face Blackburn, Rotherham, Shrew and Portsmouth
12 points taken and only 1 goal conceded in those 4 games as well.
  • Bowyer manager 19 points from 9 game
Robinson manager 18 points from last 19 games

As stated at the time , anyone would do better than the distracted Robinson

    Bowyer has done exceptional !
  • The most telling aspect is that LB is getting better results with the same squad of players.
  • Jacko has been coaching the defense.
  • The players just look better organised.

Not wishing to defend KR because the stubbornness to not play two up front was his deserved downfall in the role but Bowyer has had the benefit of a solid backbone in his defence in Pearce and BFG whereas KR’s teamsheets generally had to do without one or both for a big chunk of the season. KR’s gameplan also depended heavily (imo) on having Clarke battling away in midfield whereas Bowyer hasnt had the benefit of that yet so he hasn’t also built his game plan around him and not feeling the loss - but I suspect he will when he is handed the opportunity and sees what could be achieved with him on the pitch.

Our back 5 for each of KR's first 9 games of season was Amos, Solly, Pearce, Bauer, JDS - yet we conceded 8 more goals than in Bowyers first 9.
