makes no sense at all - just deprives 2 counties of potential money spinning quarter final ties0

It gives a team that has out performed the rest of the teams a free pass to a later stage in the tournament.The_President said:makes no sense at all - just deprives 2 counties of potential money spinning quarter final ties
I like it and think it makes perfect sense.
The ipl did something similar with the eliminators/qualifiers.1 -
the difference is the IPL has 1 group so all teams have played each other- i dont understand the logic in taking away 2 games just so the winners of thw group have one less game each. If, for example Kent win their group then im sure that they might be thinking , well; we could do with a money spinning quarter coz we are potless.0

I agree. It's not quarters and semis. It's quite a simple system used in plenty of sports. Forts place get a bye into the semis and 2nd and 3rd have a playoff to see who joins them.Addickted2TheReds said:

Otherwise you'd have half the group qualifying.1 -
I'm sure all associated with Kent would rather be one step closer to a final at Lord's, ergo being one step closer to the trophy.The_President said:the difference is the IPL has 1 group so all teams have played each other- i dont understand the logic in taking away 2 games just so the winners of thw group have one less game each. If, for example Kent win their group then im sure that they might be thinking , well; we could do with a money spinning quarter coz we are potless.
That said, we are all "basic".0 -
Big game for Surrey today must win to have a chance of making the playoff.
Sam Curran back in the squad with Pillans dropping out and playing for the 2s.

Slipped under the radar yesterday but we signed Maddinson for the T20 blast.
Personally I am pretty happy with this signing. Not a big name or a personality but I think exactly what we need. He is an Aus international and a limited overs specialist. He has plenty of limited overs experience. We have targeted him specifically to fill a gap in our line-up he will probably bat 3 and is a big hitting batsman.
Very shrewd if you ask me.
T20 side may look something like this.
Roy
Finch
Maddinson
Jacks
Pope
Foakes
Sam
Tom
Batty
Morkel
Dernbach
Burns/Borthwick/Clarke/Meaker/Pillans/Mcker/Patel/Virdi/VDB in reserve1 -
Sam in for Jade.
We gave won the toss and will bowl.

We have them 0-2 off 1.4 overs. Morkel got one and Sam the second.2

I've been following Surrey for many years and for most of those this question could be asked.cantersaddick said:

51 for 2 off 14 overs0

116 for 4 off 30 overs0

Didn't capitalise on a good start here. Looking like a very good batting pitch though.
Burns got his bowlers badly wrong there. They think he mis counted. Ended up with Clarke coming back for a one over spell in the last over.
Wagg ruined a few of our figures. Morkel was going at under 3 an over before he came in.0 -
Brown gone for 98 in the last over. Feel for him there. He came in in the first over and steadied the innings and saw his team through till the end. Fell just short of a first professional hundred.0
-
Couple of late blows and they finish 266 for 8.
More than they should have got but certainly possible. It's a decent pitch to bat on. Hopefully Roy scores a big one.0 -
Even if we win are we out if Kent lose?0

I think we need Hampshire to beat Somerset, Kent to beat Essex and us to win.blackpool72 said:Even if we win are we out if Kent lose?

Currently 193-3 at Hampshire in the County Championship. After a disastrous start, with Stoneman failing again and Borthwick being run out for a duck, Burns and first Patel (34) and now Foakes have staged a good recovery. Burns has just reached 100 and Foakes his 50.
Morkel's playing for us, Steyn's playing for Hampshire.2 -
211-3 at tea0

great recovery - well done Rory, again - must be getting closer to that call-up.0

Still getting ignored by the lions. How he hasn't even been on a lions tour is baffling. Commentators had a long rant about it yesterday.The_President said:great recovery - well done Rory, again - must be getting closer to that call-up.
Over a thousand runs a reason for 6 years in a row (this will be his 7th assuming nothing stops him) only 2 of those seasons were in division 2. Average of about 50 and is so consistent. You could talk about his conversion rate in that he has 37 50's and only 14 100's. But sure England could do worse than someone who consistently scores 30-70. As opposed to someone who scores either 0 or 100.3
