Yes not a strokemaker - not a pretty player to watch. Which judging by the selection of Vince and the rest is more of a currency than actually scoring runs consistently.
Possibly they could have some doubts over whether his technique will be found out at international level. Personally I think that's a ridiculous argument for not picking him given how many players with crap techniques England have been through in the last few years. He has to be worth a go.
I can't for the life of me come up with a sensible reason for not picking him.
Unfortunately we have a long tail at the moment, and with Stoneman in the form he is we just have to be grateful we have Burns, Foakes and the youngsters to get us up to a decent score.
Decent day yeaterday with an average to poor section in the middle - much like we had a poor start to the first day.
Imagine if we can put together a few whole days without cocking something up. We will be unbeatable.
What's mist impressive about this is that we are missing some key players in Roy and TC we have no overseas player as we haven't replaced Elgar and only 1 kolpak. The young lads are now the backbone of this side.
Shame Foakes didn't push on and get his century. Considering the runs he has scored this year he has a decent average but his conversion to hundreds has been poor. Even worse to lose him and burns close together with the score not moved on. One of them should have built a partnership with Pope.
Exceptional bowling or poor batting? We had spent the whole of our innings being told it was a good pitch and the ball wasn't doing anything hence why Steyn wasn't causing us too much trouble. Clarke looked world class in comparison.
Enforcing the follow on absolutely the right call. We didn't bowl too many overs and Virdi only bowled 1 with Patel yet to bowl. No risk of fatigue so certainly worth having another go at them and grinding them down.
I was sceptical when Clarke was signed last season but he has been fantastic since he arrived. He has taken more wickets than anyone at surrey in the period. Has used his experience well and has taken a huge amount of pressure off Sam and Tom which has allowed us to see the best of them. Shrewd bit of business that.
