I think I’m falling out of love with Charlton

Konsa sold to Brentford, I ask you,
other players rumoured to be sold,
no new players
2 allegedly problem youngsters on holiday
Goalkeeper coach gone to Millwall
RD now “planning” for another season
possible reluctant purchasers keeping very quiet
and this forum is becoming spiteful and unnecessary on some threads, but I still keep hoping and checking in
....but for how much longer

Like you mate I have been supporting Charlton for over 50 years and as you say this is about as bad as it gets.
The reason I still attend as many games as I can is because it gives me the opportunity to meet up with people that I made friends with back in the late 60's early 70s.
I often say to them that I've had enough but they talk me out of it and I keep coming back.
Charlton is a hard drug for me to kick if I'm honest.
Also if I do stop coming completely it would feel like the Belgium madman has won.
Keep the faith mate and hopefully he will be gone soon.21 -
Blimey LL you beat me to it. I was thinking of posting something along these lines myself.
I have supported both Charlton and football in general for over 50 years and after yesterdays news broke about the Ibiza episode a little bit of the love I have for both sadly died in me.
I have been boycotting for over two and half seasons so I have lost touch with The Valley, and football nowadays is not the game I grew up watching and enjoying so much.
I have my doubts about the Aussie consortium looking to buy us, if they do manage to pull it off it will not be for the love of Charlton or its history, it will be for a return on their investment and financial gain in the future.
I will see what happens but if RD is here next season I feel another 12 month boycott will mean I never return to The Valley.

Been going 57 years. Last couple have knocked the bollcks out of me .5

Must admit I don't think I could care less at the moment.3

Same. I can't even muster any enthusiasm for the World Cup. Football is now so far removed from the game I fell in love with I can't help feeling there must be something better to do than waste my time watching overpaid prima donnas.RedMist said:Must admit I don't think I could care less at the moment.
Never actually believed I would feel that way especially about CAFC.12 -
Likewise, 59 years and counting. I put this on a par with with the move to Palace, having nearly gone out of business months earlier. But at least most of our support was unified back then.
Now, we seem to have succumbed to RD's devide and rule approach. I can honestly say that I have never hated anyone the way I hate Duchatelet. Not even my first mother in law, and that is saying something.7 -
I doubt many English football supporters feel most at love and full of passion for their club on June 6th do they ?0

the longer this cunt owns us the more fans will be lost, i like other havent religously done home games for 2 seasons now, picked ones here and there and you do start to do other stuff with your time.2

I’ve boycotted the valley for a couple of years now and fell out of love with football for a while.
However, Serie A has kept my love for football alive this season. Watching Napoli has been an absolute treat and the game is still alive over there. I’ll be flying out this season to a couple of matches. The players are still so close to the fans, the fans have a huge say on club matters and it hasn’t been destroyed by money yet. The atmospheres are amazing and so many young prospects you can watch develop.1 -
Over my dead body!0

It ain't the club's fault.2

55 years for me but when i feel totally poxed off with it all i just watch the news and think...
I don't live in the Yemen or Alleppo,
I never have to worry where my next meals coming from.
I'm not a spanner.
It's about perspective.11 -
Good point well made. I'm still ill after beer and curry on Tuesday and 9 pints at the cricket on Wednesday. My chronic condition has flared up.blackpool72 said:

In the last two seasons, I have been to 3 home games. Most of the time, I forget that we are even playing now.
It's all down to one person, Roland and he is killing our club and my love for the club. I hope that when he goes, my love will return, but that's very uncertain.1 -
i worry that those that have gone away wont come back, i have always preferred away games, and would be unlikely to get a season ticket, roland has made it justifiable to stay away.1
-
Yeah finally feel like even if the takeover happens I won’t buy a season ticket anymore. My friends and family who I went with have all moved on to other hobbies and it’s harder to come back together for a regularly date. Sick of the takeover - no one knew anything and everyone would have been better keeping mouths closed. Bored of it all.0

I share your concern about people not coming back.palarsehater said:i worry that those that have gone away wont come back, i have always preferred away games, and would be unlikely to get a season ticket, roland has made it justifiable to stay away.
It will take years to repair the damage Roland has done.1 -
Will never happen for me. I am just holding my nose waiting for the smell of failure to leave my club. Yeah Roland, my f****** club.5

My youngest boys used to love The Valley, cant blame them if they veer off to Brentford, Fulham, or even friggin Chelski now, cheers Roland, wonder how many teenage fans you have driven away forever - tosser, as Blackpool says..........4

Add me to the list of those thinking of throwing the towell in.
Charlton has been a huge part of my life, ST holder/CARD member/Museum trustee and most importantly dad to a 13 year old Addicks fanatic, but this last few weeks has sucked the life from me. Aside from mates I know and see through football I can literally list Olly, Mick Everitt, Ravi, JJ and Matt Baker as the only people I feel any affinity to at my own club.
Re-discovering soul music and vinyl again with my misses plus the potential for the Cleveland Browns to finally get it right, I have other social threads to follow in life. I just hope something positive happens before the season starts because at the moment I cant see me going.
Its all just so very sad.

You're not alone mate. I wonder how long it will take to recover from the damage that RD has done to our club. When he's finally gone, I hope that our collective mentality will change - it's just super depressing right now because we have no idea when, or even if, it will happen.
But, as they say, it's darkest just before dawn. My God, I hope so.6 -
I don't as angry and upset about defeats as I used to but it still means a lot to me. I doubt I will ever stop loving Charlton even though it currently is unrequited.2
-
Hang in there Lancashire Lad. Portsmouth away last April proved to me there is still plenty of fire left in the belly of this great club.4
-
The club needs its fans more than ever. If I hadn't renewed my ST already I'd do it tonight. No problem with the boycotters but that is not something I could ever consider. Active, present protest works better and if RD is still our owner next season I will be chucking stuff on the pitch with the best of 'em6
-
This thread is so sad.
Thanks Roland you cunt5 -
Charlton home and away. Went from hitchhiking a lift to Carlisle away whilst at uni to see us promoted, to being totally sick of it and I won't go another game next season with him in charge.
Horrendous.1
