Lots of fantastic runs from Raheem, just needs that composure.

This game is not a problem. Sweden are usually 4-4-2, we are 5-3-2 to 3-5-2. That gives us a 3 v 2 in the central midfield, which Sweden will have to solve, either by pulling a wide player inside or by getting the second striker Berg to play deeper to pick up our holding midfielder Henderson. This will then give us 3 Centre Backs up against Toivenen, allowing Maguire or Stones to come out and overload the central areas. Sweden will have to disrupt their system to play us and do not have the personnel to do it.

The only issues for us, will be 2 v 1 on the flanks if they push their full backs on alongside their wide players, to overload our wing backs, which can be covered by Walker on the right and Maguire on the left. If they do that, we can hit them on the break in the vacant full back areas and pull their big Centre Backs out. Or if Toivenen plays up against Walker and gives him problems with his height and size.

Southgate's system is perfect to deal with 4-4-2.

So far, so good. Sweden have to change it. They ain't pushing their Full Backs on. England need to get Rashford on for Sterling. He can't finish.

Sweden were desperate for the whistle there.

Put the ball in the net first and then worry about the linesman

Wish that half had a few more minutes in it. Really in the ascendancy at the end

Brought it down well. Shame the keeper is 6'6!

Sweden look toothless but surely they will apply more pressure second half. Hope we can get that second goal before we get nervy.

Starting to feel sorry for him, just can't buy a goal at the moment.

    Exactly.
Him and Alli all they need is a goal and their confidence will soar.

that out ball whenever we have it with the keeper HAS to be Trippier or Young, the Sweden attackers are pushing up so high and they are both wide open every single time

Reckon this could be 3 or 4

Not if Sterling's got anything to do with it.

My mate never stops moaning about Sterling. Think he has been excellent this game so far, creates space, times his runs superbly - it'll come. Come on England!

Not good enough from Sterling. This lack of composure will come back to haunt us.

Alli poor. Sterling - dear oh dear. Not the greatest game so far, Sweden don't seem to have turned up. Need another goal for sure.

Sometimes beating the keeper is hard.

Sterling 8/1 for the next goal.

Could be 80/1 and I'm not lumping. Couldn't hit a barn door at the moment.

Watching the replay back, he didn't have much choice but to try and go round him.

Sterling's movement is on a different planet. If he could finish he would be absolutely lethal. Needs to stay in the side simply because he is impossible to mark and can't be kept out of the game. Rashford doesn't have a chance of even creating the chances Sterling does.
  • Sterling will get two this half

Maybe. But I'd back him to put away one of the chances sterling is missing

Only one getting in the right positions though.

Sterling for me is very akin to Heskey back in the day (I know they play very different roles) but what they both do is create space and draw defenders to them that the attackers around them can exploit. Heskey was always roundly criticised for his finishing as well but by people totally missing the point of him.
