The Takeover Thread - Duchatelet Finally Sells (Jan 2020)

If you have supported Charlton for 59 years you have spent about 45 of those years supporting a team with no ambition and selling players as soon as a decent offer came in, Or in Paul Walsh and Paul Elliott's case, modest offers.Isawsummersplay said:I am closer to saying stuff the whole lot than I have ever been in 59 years of supporting this team. So many false dawns, cryptic comments, broken promises over these last 18 months than in the previous 57 and a half years.
I desperately want Duchatelet to go, but have no confidence whatsoever that the Australians are the right people to succeed the Belgian.
If there is a second bidder, the supposition is that Murray is involved, the same Murray who lumbered us with Dowie purely to piss off Simon Jordan.
This is my last post on Charlton Life. I have not renewed my season ticket. Charlton have lost another loyal supporter. I doubt I will ever return.
Don't blame you for walking away but don't delude yourself that this current impasse is unique in Cafc history because so many dodgy moments have happened, this was fairly predicable from Duchatelet's first week in charge.
Richard Murray part 1 was the best for most of us.8 -

So why did you say “not so” to my theory and highlight the first bit?JamesSeed said:
He just said 'there may be a couple of difficult weeks ahead'. Nothing about loans or Roland. It could be either or neither I guess.Redrobo said:
So it is Roland, the ex Directors and the loans.JamesSeed said:
Not so.Redrobo said:The way that the comment has been phrased to James suggests to me it is they the Australians that have the difficulties, not Roland. Not the ex directors. Not loans.
So what is it that the Australians will find difficult to do in two weeks?
We have been told that the consortium needs to be less complicated. Who decided this and why?
There also seems to be the suggestion that two of the consortium did not pass fit and proper. Is this what will mean a difficult two weeks to resolve?
Maybe the two go together. By re-organising the consortium they can then meet the requirements of fit and proper and yet keep the consortium together.4 -
Done Deal is running again shortly tonight at Chelmsford. 8/1 is good e/w value.8

I've started playing "takeover thread roulette".
Each morning I click onto a random historic thread page and for that day I'll get through a few consecutive pages pretending that it's in real time.
Yesterday was shite as page 426-429 and the takeover was firmly off so was in a poxy mood.
Today was epic though as it was page 232 whereby something is definitely happening this week and I'm racing through posts positive it will have happened by the time I get to page 239 and turn in for the night so I am currently absolutely buzzing with excitement.
Just seen an "it's happening gif" so am beside myself.

What a top game to play Rodders. I guess you get a few minutes of escapism before the reality of realising just how much hyperbole about the takeover has been spouted during that time.RodneyCharltonTrotta said:I've started playing "takeover thread roulette".

@JamesSeed why do you have so much faith in the Aussies?
Red7Oak said:
With due respect I don't think the Aussies have shown us anything yet until its happens this 'ambition' is all talk! Not show!JamesSeed said:.
No benefit of coursekillerandflash said:
But the longer the takeover is delayed, the worse state the club will be in. There's a massive difference between buying a club in June, and planning for promotion and buying one in September with a season of struggle ahead, especially if they have a 5 year plan. If the 5 year plan turns into a 6 year plan as a result, how does that benefit the Aussies financially?Hex said:
Yes, but that is irrelevant as in 2 weeks, when the transfer window closes, Roland has to fund the monthly loses while the Aussies can sit back and watch the money drain out of Staprix. They are in control now.killerandflash said:
Or from Roland's point of viewHex said:
Or is this a hidden message - "Roland, are you listening ? We know we are your only option. It's too late for us to put together a promotion team for this season so we are not in any hurry to complete a deal. We can wait while your debts pile up ..... unless you agree to our price NOW".JamesSeed said:
Hoping it's two weeks, but it could well be more unfortunately.Moo said:I’m serious, we can hold on for 2 weeks.
"You could have bought the club in June and had a summer to build a promotion side and start your era off on a wave of optimism. Instead, because of the delays you'll go into this season with a mediocre squad (especially when Bauer and Magennis get sold in August), and start your era with a year struggling in L1, racking up losses, and then over spending in the January window to try and save the season"
What numbers is your mum using ;-)Stu_of_Kunming said:
It's not like they're going to tell the world they don't have a clue what they're doing, is it!Moo said:
Well from what James has said they have a five year plan to get us to the premier league. Think we have to hold onto the hope that it will happen.Scoham said:
If it happens the wait will have killed of some of the excitement. Due to the time it's taken there will be a lot more fans having doubts about the Aussies, whether that's fair or not. Looking across social media over the last few weeks I've seen more comments blaming them for the delay or doubting they'll be good for the club.Moo said:
What If the takeover does finally happen? Say end of August. I’m sure it will create a good buzz around the place. We still have the January window to make a big push for promotion. I also believe we have a much better manager this season who can get the best out of our players.Redvalleyeast said:
Then mid table league 1 is the best we can hope for. No strength in depth, injured players already. Its so frustrating, this club has so much potential and for one reason or another, every season is the same. Christ knows what we've done as fans of Charlton to warrant such shit times but im just sick of it. Sad.JamesSeed said:

More chance of my mum winning the lottery than us being in The Prem in 5 years.
Of course you can argue that the chances are we won't get to the Prem in 5 years. But at least they're showing the ambition that the club has lacked for years.
I can't blame any of you for feeling like this. You have no evidence that the Aussies will be great owners, and yes it's taken an age to get any deal done.Isawsummersplay said:I am closer to saying stuff the whole lot than I have ever been in 59 years of supporting this team. If they buy the club you can judge them by their actions on and after that time. I'd guess that there'll be extra funds for players, but even so, that won't guarantee success.3 -
If Bowyer gets us promoted while the old yellow toothed wankstain is still running the club into the ground it will rate as probably the best performance ever by a Charlton manager.3

That's it! I can't take anymore of this. I'm giving up football and devoting my free time to women's field hockey. It'll be hard, but surely it has to be more pleasurable than this daily dose of will Roland ever just do the sensible thing and just fook off. Who's with me?!0
