Congratulations Ademola Lookman

It does make you laugh. The world cup was all about a young English team overachieving and highlighted how important it was for the young players to get game time at their clubs.
All I have seen in the gossip column since is the usual roll call of foreign players you have never heard of being targeted by prem clubs.
Go abroad Ademola, play games and develop.20 -

Kids arent being tested in the Premier League because the Managers cant take the risk of putting one or two in the first team, if that game is lost then they're one game closer to the sack6 -
It also stings less watching ex-players play abroad. If i were a pro i would go abroad in a heartbeat!3

The whole thing is getting ridiculous - no idea of developing players but instead buy in players to rescue your season. The short termism of English football is a depressing spectacle - seems to be more talk about money, transfers and contracts than anything else.ForeverAddickted said:

Its absolutely mental... You go on the aritcles about Lookman potentially going to Leipzig and the comments are filled with Everton fans saying that if he doesnt want to play for them, they wont be bothered about him leaving.
Am sure he'd love to play in the Premier League on a regular basis yet when kids are given an opportunity when they've proven what they can do, whats the point of sticking around0 -
He needs to leave for the sake of his career - seems unlikely to play at Everton. Playing in Germany seems a better bet.ForeverAddickted said:Its absolutely mental... That spot Welbeck took this summer is up for grabs and Lookman is a contender.3

Good luck to the boy0

He will develop into a much better player playing abroad than he will here.
The pressure isn’t as much on younger players than it is here, the coaching in Germany is still top class, he will be playing with and against very good players, learning different styles and cultures.
Might think it’s a silly comparison, but the last player to have played regularly in Germany and play for England weren’t too bad aye. Owen Hargreaves.
What is the point in him staying in the Premier League to sit on the bench and get 15/20 minutes here and there and play in the cups? Go abroad Ademola, learn, embrace it and become better than you would here.
Hopefully things work out for him and we could potentially see him involved for England in 2020 or for sure in 2022.2 - Sponsored links:

Why all this interest in Lookman.....just another explayer as far as I’m concerned?
Once they’ve gone, they’ve gone and I personally have no more interest in them than I would any player at another club.....never understood folks interest in what ex players do after they leave us.
I suppose it’s something I learned to do as a kid many many years ago after Stuart Leary left us and countless others who’ve followed suit.....it’s the way I deal with the disappointment........I try to ignore them.
Not criticising others here but I do find the adoration/OTT interest in explayers careers a little strange.
Appreciate this is a football orientated site of course but over 600 posts about an explayer who likely doesn’t give a shyte about us does seem rather extraordinary to me.....how many more months/years will this go on for I wonder?
Ah well......we’re all different I guess.5 -
Because he was one of the most talented players we've had in years and was a genuinely lovely lad who deserves to do well in football?23

Over the last 60 years I’ve seen dozens and dozens of great ‘likeable’ young players go.....and many of them far better rated than Lookman I may add.Dazzler21 said:Because he was one of the most talented players we've had in years and was a genuinely lovely lad who deserves to do well in football?
Way way too many to keep following all their individual careers.

Who are these players who were far better rated than Lookman? I cant think of more than a handful.SoundAsa£ said:

Even then, one of those is Defoe, who doesn't really count.5 -

Lookman contributed five goals and three assists in just 576 minutes of Bundesliga action in total. His average of a goal contribution every 72 minutes was the second best in the division - behind only Robert Lewandowski and ahead of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Thomas Muller and James Rodriguez.8 - Sponsored links:

Between Lookman's £20M valuation by Everton and Pope's £15M valuation by Burnley... those two players we've sold the last 3 years are now worth what the Aussies might pay for CAFC.... in total!15

Leary, Firmani, Bonds, Bailey, Glover, Hinton, Walsh, Bowyer, Campbell, Elliot. Shelvey,.....just a random few from the past that I believe were mostly well before your time.Stu_of_Kunming said:

There are so many whose names I just cannot bring up at the drop of a hat, my memory not being so sharp these days.
Was Lookman really ‘that’ highly rated.......I don’t think so myself.5 -

If one followed that train of thought about everything you aren’t interested in then life would be very boring.....and don’t tell me you never open threads or read anything or watch anything that you aren’t particularly interested in and then have a view on it.......cos I simply wouldn’t believe you.The Red Robin said:

Don't really need to justify why I'm interested in the progression of his career but I'm going to give it a go anyway.
I think you do Lookman a serious disservice. Perhaps that's because you felt more of a connection to those players you mentioned and less so in the case of Lookman.
If he gets his move, he will most likely feature heavily for one of the top teams in Germany including in European competition. All at 20 years old.
How many ex-academy players have gone on to play in a top European competition? In recent times I can think only of Lee Bowyer, Scott Parker and then Nick Pope a few days ago.
If he continues his impressive rise, he could be one of our country's best players by the time he's 28 and the 2026 World Cup comes around.

But why does that interest you more than any young player from any other club.....more than in ‘passing interest as he once played for us?Callumcafc said:Don't really need to justify why I'm interested in the progression of his career but I'm going to give it a go anyway.

He’s gone from CAFC, never to return.
You and everyone else have the perfect right and justification to follow his career but I myself just can’t get my head round it to the point that I’m very much interested, in fact the very reason he and others left would make me less interested....it being my disappointment defence mechanism kicking in.
Like I said, I guess we’re all different and good luck to all you who find pleasure in being so.

It's interesting at present re the debate over whether going abroad will help his career - this is about the direction of English football and add into that his links with Charlton.SoundAsa£ said:

I would have thought you might be interested but you seem determined not to be and to tell us that. Comparing Lookman to players from the 60s seems to be clutching at straws.
