Thought we played well but not exceptionally and dealt with the threat they had to offer. Their goalie did well to save Reeves shot and I think kept the score decent for them. THey definitely missed Eaves - not sure they had a shot on target.
Glad we've got the old Fosu back.

  • Great to see so much one touch invention in the final third. Just when you thought they were overdoing it Fosu looks up and hits a peach. All the midfield (and born again Solly) were outstanding today.

Will Luton ever stop winning, seems like they've won every game for about 2 months.

Luton, in their first 3 League games of 2019, play Barnsley, Sunderland and Peterborough.

Be interesting to see their results in those games - and how it affects us?

We've essentially caught Sunderland, who looked like the best team in L1 a couple months ago. No reason we can't catch everyone above us in the second half of the season.
  • 12,836 of which 1401 were Gills supporters.

Poor turnout for their main 'local derby' of the season

Maybe. Sunderland still have two games in hand over the rest of the sides at the top though.

Dunno but felt busy today. They ran out of programmes which suggests the club got caught out too!

We have Barnsley and Sunderland as 2 of our next 4 as well though
  • Luton the form team over the last 6 games but we are second.

Gills looked a level above Wimbledon yet the Dons go and win away today. Funny old game.

We did enough without being spectacular. Some of our interplay going forward is very impressive but we are just not quite good enough to pull it off.

As others have said, Fosu was much more like his old self. The spine triangle of Pearce, Bauer and Biliek gave us a very impressive shape and control of the game, bar the first five mins and the last few minutes of the game.

Solly’s Best game at left back for a long time and I really like Dijksteel.

Only grumble for me is Ajose is not bringing anything to the party imo. But we are looking very solid at home these days.

    Will be interesting.

Luton’s first 3 league games of season, they lost to Portsmouth and Peterborough, plus drew with Sunderland. Obviously they’ve now gone on a terrific run, but may not pick up points against those around them.

Good point. But it's in our own hands.

And hopefully, the squad will be bolstered by those returning from injury.

  • Decent enough performance but Steer was poor today - dropped a cross and some shocking distribution and caught dawdling on the ball.

Glad we go the three points, glad we're ticking over nicely.

Sorry to hear that The Valley was busier though.

    More money to 'him'.

    They only print 50.
  • Anyone know where Clarke is, as i would've expected him to be on the bench by now. Has he had an injury setback?

  • First game since at Rochdale. Was impressed with our controlling football, when it came off, Taylor was everywhere and ran himself into the ground, Fosu needs some of his final passes to happen but his goal was excellent. Reeves has his moments but still seems a little light weight, the defensive 5 were excellent except for giving away too many free kicks early on. Steer had good command of his area but his kicking was at times poor.
Gillingham had their chances and missed, we had our chances and took a couple
    Overall a competent professional display

I wonder if he was affected by the knock he took early on

Love that Fosu attacked the same route twice, and we scored twice.

Fosu and Reeves seem to work quite well together

First 2 or 3 minutes Gills looked really up for up. Then we scored. pretty easy game after that. Confidence must be flying high.
  • Great result. Pray for a take-over.

Some posters have given Fosu 6.5 on the player marks thread.
This is what Bowyer thought about him:

Charlton manager Lee Bowyer said Tariqe Fosu was “unplayable” in Charlton’s 2-0 win at home to Gillingham today.

The 23-year-old played a lovely through ball to set-up Ben Reeves for the Addicks opening goal and then struck an absolute beauty from 25 yards to double Charlton’s lead.

Fosu started last season in scintillating fashion ending up with nine goals and after an injury-hit start to the season he is playing his way in to form.

Bowyer said: “He looked a bit sharper last week against Wimbledon. Today, especially first half, I thought he was unplayable, like the Tariqe we had last season.

“I said we’ve just got to be patient with him. You don’t go from a good player to a bad player in no time at all. We just had to be patient, he was catching up fitness wise, so hopefully now he’s caught up and going on today’s display then I’d say we’re getting the old Tariqe back.”

The game also saw Reeves net his first goal of the season and Bowyer reserved some praise for the former MK Dons man.

He said: “He’s very clever in possession, we know what he brings in possession. Out of possession he works hard. I’m pleased he actually ran into the box. He doesn’t like doing that for some reason. I keep telling him ‘Get into the box, get in the box’ and today he got in two or three times. He should have scored another. I’m happy he’s got a goal, I think a few of them could have scored today.”

Felt like we never got out of second gear but won easily without being brilliant.

We've been blessed with two goal scoring strikers this season but the midfield hasnt chipped in enough goals.

Reeves, who should have got a second, and Fosu, with a fabulous strike, solved that problem, at least for one day.

After that we were always in control, even when Gillingham had a little spell of possession after half time.

Maybe Eves would have taken one of the four headed chances Gillingham had, but for all their effort, the Kent side were outplayed. Hanlon looked decent for them.

No one really stood out for us. Steer got caught in possession and kicked the ball out, Aribo wasn't at his best, Fosu had more impact than of late, Ajose was involved, Bielik strong.

    My MOTM would be Solly.

7 wins out 8 with multiple injuries, keep this squad together and fit plus add a left back and we can get top three, maybe two.

Much busier and noisier than of late at the Valley too. Happy Christmas everyone.
  • I thought that Fosu was unplayable for the majority of the game but then for the last quarter turned back into the player we saw at the start of the season

Reeves could have had a hat trick had he been more ruthless. Missed the first goal due to the regular car park being full. Fosu gave us a glimpse of what he used to do consistently when we first signed him. RHF looked good when he came on compared to his last appearance in that FA cup shocker. Steer got Deano’s goal kicking tutorial DVD in the secret Santa. That is all.
