Come and meet the Accrington owner on Saturday

In what we believe to be a football first, we have invited opposition club owner Andy Holt to meet fans for a chat over a pie and a pint ahead of Accrington Stanley's debut match at The Valley.

Venue: Upstairs at The Swan, Charlton Village

Date: Saturday 19th January

Time: From 12.30 – we expect Andy to join us at around 12.45 for an hour or so.

There is no cost to attend but space is limited so places are only available to CAST members, although people will be able to join at the door. Please register now if you wish to join us using the link below. You need to click on "Register" and then "Checkout" which will take you through to the registration page

Hear first hand from the man officially voted the "Best Football Club Owner in the Country" by fans in the recent Against League 3 survey. Andy also won both League Two and overall CEO of the year at the Football Business Awards in November 2018.

An outspoken user of Twitter, Andy does not tend to hold back in giving views on football's role in the community and issues surrounding the game and its governance. He shot into the limelight when the EFL questioned his right to buy his squad a post-match Mcdonalds as they headed for promotion last season. Accrington Stanley, "the club that wouldn't die", have progressed significantly under his four year tenure. He shies away from taking credit, pointing to the contribution of fellow directors and recognising that a club really belongs to the fans not the transient owner.

When asked earlier this season about the situation at Blackpool, Holt commented, "It's so sad that one person can hold a community club to ransom...It's sickening to see a great club alienate fans." He has openly challenged the EFL to do more in such situations.

So come along on Saturday 19th for your chance to ask Andy questions about club ownership, football finance, televised football or anything else of interest to fans of Charlton Athletic.

A modest buffet courtesy of CAST will be provided along with a cash bar.

If you wish to join CAST in advance of the event you can do so here:

Annual membership costs £5 and you can join via https://castrust.org/join/

If only he had a spare £40m £77m to buy Charlton.

He won me over just by this phrase:
" ...... recognising that a club really belongs to the fans not the transient owner"

  • If you can get the north west version of inside out on BBC1 at 7:30 tonight through Sky or similar, they go behind the scenes at Accrington with plenty from Andy Holt. This is well worth a watch if you can

Looking forward to seeing him at White Swan. Thanks to the Trust for setting this up I think it’s a great idea.
  • Andy Holt is someone who really understands what a football club means to a community. If the game's governing bodies were populated by the likes of Andy, I'm sure professional football would have a healthy future and football fans would be valued.

Great initiative by the CAS Trust.

I agree - a great idea and I'm very much looking forward to hearing what Andy Holt has to say. The bloke's an absolute breath of fresh air, especially when you compare him to a lot of other owners in the game.

Can somebody film it and send it to Duchatelet so he can get an idea of what a real owner of a football club looks and sounds like.

Feature on Accrington starts at about 19 minutes.

Do please sign up if you wish to attend - CAST are laying on a buffet (modest) so we need to give the pub an idea of numbers for catering - and staffing the bar. Cheers.

I can’t make this but I really wish I could. If our eventual new owners are even half as fan-orientated as Andy Holt we will be back on the right path.

I loved the way, near the end of the piece, the owner explained that when he took over he knew the cost, but not the true value of the club, in what it does socially in the town.

Oh that Roland could see beyond euro signs and the bottom line to the full value of Charltonto its fans and to the local area!

Ive just watched the Inside Out report on AS, what a great cub and superb owner, the exact opposite of our owner.
The critical message for me is, 'We feel like we belong'. When was the last time you could say that about CAFC?
Shamefully, that is down to one man, and one man only, its not just about results, if it was, we would all be supporting Man U, Chelski, Arsenal, Citeh etc, its about belonging, and one day that will change.

That's well worth a watch, excellent stuff. Essentially he got involved as he was in the bar and they ran out of beer! How has this been allowed to happen?! What a legend haha! Seems like a top bloke. Their manager is a geezer too. Good luck to them, except against us obviously
  • was that us they were talking about whilst watching videos about how they could drive a bus through the gaps ? Looked like the Valley

    Think it was.

I heard Jumbo jet rather than bus
  • Andy Holt appears to be close to an ideal football league owner, someone who see's things from the fans perspective as well as the boardroom,
and understands the "community" dimension of a football league club.

Registered last week and looking forward to it.

As an additional bonus, the other Heather will be on hand to answer any questions arising from CARD's meeting with the EFL.

Is there really any evidence of Duchatelet learning anything in his time as our owner?
