I felt nervous with that penalty last night , a slow run/walk up ...
was he taking they Buyens approach, try and get the keeper to commit and if the keeper doesn't go one way or t'other strike it well enough so he can't get to it2 -

While I could have (and have) seen him miss in front of the Jimmy Seed stand, I couldn’t (and haven’t) see him miss with the Civered end singing for him. Proper confidence injection.1

Apologies if mentioned already elsewhere, but I believe Lyle’s goal on Easter Monday was his 20th league goal of the season and his 8th in 9 matches. Which, unless I’m very much mistaken, makes him the first Charlton striker to hit 20+ league goals in a season since BWP 7 years ago.
Also, according to the BBC, that puts him second in this season’s League 1 goalscorers list, only behind League One Player of the Year James Collins of Luton on 23. However, if you include all competitions Taylor is actually tied with Collins courtesy of his hat trick in the FA Cup. Taylor also has 9 assists to Collins 3 (League stays only).
The other nominees for player of the year were Aiden Mcgeady (12 league goals 5 assists), and John Marquis (19 goals and 5 assists). For comparison, Karlan Grant got 14 goals and 4 assists in the league in half a season.
And a free transfer to boot. He really has gone under appreciated outside SE7, and, when you put it in the context above, it shows what a really excellent season he has had, even allowing for 12 bookings and a red card. Maybe that counted against him with the EFL, but looking at his stats has swayed me to vote for him as our POTY, and there has been some stiff competition this season.10 - Sponsored links:

Another interesting thing I noticed, Taylor has scored one hat trick and one brace all season, the remaining 18 goals have come in singles ( a not insignificant number being penalties, of course), with his longest dry spell being just 4 matches, which includes one he finished early by being sent off. I think that shows his consistency over the season and probably just how damaging that 3 game suspension was to our season overall.8

Three goals behind James Collins for golden boot. Probably too many claw back0

Most goal involvements (28) in league 13

Taylor is a joy to watch - I really fail to understand how he's never played at a higher level.
He has a great first touch, a great workrate, provides assists and scores plenty of goals.
His enthusiasm shines through and he's a great asset to the club..

Only a year left on his contract I believe. Any well run club would already be talking to him about extending his contract. But we are talking about Charlton under Douchbag here so prepare yourself for another Grant situation.
Actually I seriously wonder if Taylor will even be here next year. He is one of our few saleable assets now and if a Championship team came in with a cheeky bid of £2 million or so in the summer it's hard to see Douchbag turning it down.
And that sadly is our fate until we get a new sensible owner.4 -

Collins only has three games left
i.e. Mendonca is down as having scored 23-goals in 97/98

SoccerBase on the other hand has him down for 28-goals that season (the difference coming from: Play-Offs: 3-Goals | FA Cup: 1-goal | League Cup: 1-Goal)

He comes across as an intelligent and likeable lad, but also very self confident. I think he walks the line between confidence and arrogance well but I could certainly imagine him being a bit of a handful in his younger years. Some players just mature and peak a bit later than others. The good news is, while he’s not slow, Taylor is not overly reliant on his pace so I think he has a few years left in him yet.3 -
Everything about Lyle screams one thing to me...
His attitude on the pitch. (Like when he gave the ball to Grant to take a penalty, when he was on a hat-trick.)
They way he projects himself off the pitch. (The pink hair for cancer, and buying a young team in Kent a strip when they copied him. And his interviews on racism.)
His attitude towards Charlton. (When the Charlton women's team played at The Valley, there was a team picture handed out. At the back of the team photo was a beaming LT.)
It all screams to me "CAPTAIN!"6 -

Like so many players this year, Taylor has improved considerably under Bows. I don’t know how he does it, but other than Fosu and Marshall I can’t think of a player that is not better.1

He has a fantastic engine, is very strong and can finish. Add to that a decent touch and he is without doubt the best striker in the league.0

Major man crush on Lyle, he is total quality. Sadly, I have no doubt Roland will sell him in the summer

He’s the most complete striker we’ve had in a long time. If he had much more to his game we’d never have been able to sign him.
