EFL didn't even follow their own procedures0 -
You would say unbelievable, but of course it's not.1

EFL are not fit and proper to do the job- they should be embarrassed - the national game will be ruined
this is on their website
Community
All EFL member clubs have a prestigious place within the heart of their respective communities. The 72 clubs actively represent the interests of their towns and cities coming together on a local and national level to positively impact on the societies they serve for the betterment of all. Underpinned by the services and projects of the EFL Trust and the individual club trusts within that network, the EFL is a place where clubs, fans and communities can come together to enjoy a unique and shared experience.
Perhaps the EFL should practice what they preach1 -

The EFL were going to do the same with Bolton the other month. Happy to let any old person takeover just so the players & staff could get paid. The bloke in question had previously been banned by the EFL & had various financial issues at the time.0

Whenever I see stories like this, I am left to wonder "who in their right mind would buy a football club?"3
-
Has there been a case the EFL have stopped someone from taking over a football club?
usually if a club is in financial bother the only alternative is administration or bankruptcy so the rule is pretty impotent if they want to avoid the worse case scenario0 -
This is the problem isn't it. If you work on the basis every single one of the 72 looses money every year, which isn't far off the truth, your going to run out of fit and proper mugs sooner rather than later. The more distressed sales of clubs you have the more chancers and spivs you will attract.snowinberlin said:Has there been a case the EFL have stopped someone from taking over a football club?

Is it better to take the risk than risk a club going to the wall?
I think the EFL are now almost working in the basis that they will do anything, regarding allowing take overs to avoid a winding up order. They almost said as much regarding Sunderland last summer. They wanted to block it but Ellis Short said if they did he would wind the club up.2 -
You can't really blame the EFL here, they've been far too busy lately bothering themselves with how AFC Wimbledon refer to MK Dons on their website and match day programme ahead of their Carabao cup tie next month.
Give them a break, they need to resolve the really important matters first.4 -
Notts County, the world's oldest professional football club, have had a winding-up petition against them adjourned for a third time.
Notts, relegated from the Football League last season having been a founding member 130 years earlier, owe HM Revenue & Customs about £800,000.
The up-for-sale club will next appear in court on Wednesday, 31 July.
Owner Alan Hardy has said he "will be exchanging contracts with the new owners in the coming days".

Hope he didn't use the word "imminent".0 -

Thats actually a bit strange
Going by the Bury tweets; Byron Moore and Neil Danns were both involved and were part of the promotion winning team last season0 -
Would their registrations, if not void, be disputable? I think the PFA provide some insurance for trialists. Not worth Williams taking the risk, but some players aren't afforded that luxury.ForeverAddickted said:Thats actually a bit strange

Don't have much sympathy for Bury, if I recall they spent big in league 1, brought in loads of players but got relegated and now paying the price and seemed to enjoy a promotion last season when clearly they lived beyond their means. Maybe a stint in non league will do them some good2

Bury's creditors have approved a rescue plan to clear some of the Shakers' debts, meaning the League One club is set to receive a 12-point deduction.

Bit weird to have both a relegated team AND a promoted team in the same division getting points deductions before the season starts...especially when both are near neighboursForeverAddickted said:

EFL helping their members in every way they possibly can, as ever.
What a bunch of shysters.

Sort it by 5.00pm on Monday 29th (today) or EFL will suspend their opening fixtures0 -
On Bolton - latest issue is with payment plan offered to departed players. 20% of outstanding wages now, rest over next two years. Believe PFA recommending they accept (run risk of nothing if club liquidated)

That's a pisstake. If I was one of the players I'd walk now & sue the EFL for allowing the situation to get to this. The EFL delight in saying how the Clubs are their "members"......then its your "members" that have let you down.clive said:On Bolton - latest issue is with payment plan offered to departed players. 20% of outstanding wages now, rest over next two years. So 12 noon becomes 5pm. What's the betting that 5pm become noon tomorrow. The EFL couldnt run the proverbial in a brewery.Henry Irving said:https://www.efl.com/news/2019/july/efl-statement-bolton-wanderers-and-bury-fc/

What have the EFL done wrong here in your eyes? They are being quite clear and thinking about all FL members as it affects everyone.golfaddick said:

So if the players accept then they're still tied to their contracts and can't walk?clive said:On Bolton - latest issue is with payment plan offered to departed players. 20% of outstanding wages now, rest over next two years. Also if i was a Bolton player and they wanted 2 YEARS to pay me back, i'd be slightly worried about getting the next few months wages on time.0 -
Because as per the statement further up this thread - the EFL have already pushed one deadline back for Bury (they initially had until 12noon today) so fully expect them to piss around and do it againsnowinberlin said:
