Sheffield United Away

edited December 2008 in Match Day Travel
I think the coast is clear for me to get to this one, any ideas on good places to drink pre match. and any possibilities of a bit of a lifers meet up ?

Comments

  • I am going, would be good to meet up. Don't know where the away pub(s) are though.
  • I am also going, would be on for a pint with anyone. Sheffield is my uni town so I know a few boozers out of the way, some decent, some not!
  • Haven't been there since they knocked us out of the League Cup by a blatent offside goal in the early 70's, but according to a film I saw recently it's now inhabited by naked, dancing , ex-steelworkers , so be aware folks.
  • most places in sheff are fine, but you won't get in anywhere in colors home or away.

best place and close, go Dulo's (my old local) end of cemetry road/london road, behind waitrose. Bout a 4/5 min walk to the ground, or cheap drinks down eccelsal road in nursery tavern - its a dive though, but there's loadsa options down ecce rd way.

Gonna be in Sheff that wknd for a pre NYE warm up so b first away day of the season for me.
  • Dulo's sounds good, is the beer any good scruffle.

  • Pub opposite the station is "OK" ;
pooltable, decent beers and SkySports and is about 8/10 minutes from the ground.

    That'll be The Howard
  • The Stone House was always pretty decent. About ten or fifteen minutes from the station.

I used to work in a pub called The Washington which is on Fitzwilliam street. It used to be a cracking boozer and about 15 minutes walk from the ground. Failing that you could always head for West Street/Devonshire street. Loads of bars, a bit studenty though. I would avoid most places on London Road, they're generally home only and not really worth going to anyway. There aren't many away fan friendly places near Brammel lane, expect to walk 15-20 minutes before the game.
  • the washington, dulo or the devonshire cat for real ales.

you have never lived, ten years ago was really busy pubby bar, then turned to biggest pile of chave and picky you have ever seen, think shut down now
  • sitting in the barbers yesterday reading the papers, i seem to recall a story about some plymouth fans that got rounded up by the old bill for no reason at all and escorted all the way back home without seeing the game...wasn't that sheff utd ?...anybody else read the story...might have been in the mirror...

I know it happened to Stoke en route to Man Utd this season and heard the same about Plymouth in Doncaster... it's disgusting what they can get away with these days without any Intelligence whatsoever. The Stoke group were drinking in a pub on the way to Manchester, no singing, no tension, no intelligence, no bans, nothing, all got their tickets removed and sent back to Stoke. Same story about Plymouth, for that very local trip to Doncaster they were removed from the town centre after god knows how many hours on the road. Section 27 the new tool of abuse...

not heard anything about Shef Utd
  • Great see you there
