RBS to appoint first-ever female CEO

This is great news and RBS should be congratulated.  Alison Rose has 25 years' experience with the bank and is widely-expected to be appointed within the next few weeks.  It's a real, progressive step for RBS and puts them in stark contrast to all of its main rivals, none of whom have ever appointed a female CEO.  I think RBS should be congratulated.  This is great news.

And, as RBS is 62% owned by the state, we should all be cheering.  Because, this will save them loads of money.

  • Just hope she does a good job and isn't as incompetent and greedy as a lot of the male CEOs.

I had this horrible thought before opening the thread that Daisy had landed her next job.

Also, belated congratulations to the Conservative Party who, in 1975, showed real, progressive steps by appointing a female leader. It put them in stark contrast to all of their main rivals, none of whom have ever appointed a female leader, and still haven't 44 years later.

Why is this great news? Let's see how she does. After all we had a female CEO at Charlton and what a pigs ear she made of the job.

It's a fair point to say that the Tories are the only "main" party to have chosen a female leader (and, consequently, to dispose of them, ignominiously).  But the truth is a bit more interesting if you scratch a bit deeper.

Of the parties in the House of Commons, only the Conservatives and Labour have men as leaders; SNP, LibDems, DUP, Plaid Cymru, the Green Party and Change UK have female leaders.

The two biggest parties in the House of Lords, the Northern Ireland Assembly and the Scottish Parliament have female leaders.

In the European Parliament, of the ten parties representing British constituencies, four have elected women leaders, four have elected male leaders, two haven't elected a leader.

And the Head of State is a woman!

She can't be worse than her predecessors. All banks are shit, but that one is the shittest.

Providing she is the best candidate, congratulations to her.

RBS should not need congratulating for picking the best candidate to be CEO.

It's farcical that it even needs highlighting.
