Lyle Taylor - August 2025 signed for Chelmsford City (p295)

Lyle Taylor is a modern Charlton legend and now always will be.
Those who seek to undermine him, if they actually exist, can do one.
He can be as moody as he likes, because he is magnificent.14 -
I get frustrated that it could be such a wasted opportunity. Strikers like Clive Mendonca, Darren Bent, Yann Kermorgant and Lyle are few and far between and worth pushing the boat out for. They are not at all easy to replace. From Lyle's point of view, there is also nothing worse than feeling under-valued by your employer. He knows he is playing week in and week out against other strikers on at least three or four times what he is earning. I give him massive credit for keeping up the effort given such circumstances. If I was in charge (ha, ha), I'd give him a chunky pay-rise and three year contract - an extra £10k pw over three years is all of £1.5M. There is no way we can replace him for anything like that. and I'd happily look any other squad members in the eye and justify why he is worth that amount.16

I'm sure we have already tried to tie Lyle to a new contract but it won't be as much as another club will offer him next summer. This will be his last chance of a big personal payday so I'm sure he will be moving on. As long as he gives his best until he leaves then we should all be grateful for his service.4

A Lyle Taylor story.
Heard this tale this afternoon while watching Whyteleafe v Guernsey in the Isthmian League south east division.
A woman who's teenage son was playing for my local team told me he was at Wimbledon two years ago and he got to train and play with the first team.
He was determined to impress and nutmegged a 1st team defender. The 30 year old defender took this as a personal insult and grabbed the player by the neck.
In steps Lyle Taylor and sorts it out telling the Pro to show respect to the young player.
This woman then started to sing Lyle Taylor Baby. Quite bizarre as we were surrounded by Palace and Chelsea fans who live locally.
I don't know the woman from Eve but I believed her.

Taylor is vital to us ... these childish cry babies who want Lyle to "behave" in a certain way and then get offended when he doesn't need to pipe down before they force a very important piece of man power out of our club, you are not important, Lyle is... STFU
Thank you8 -
let the player play football
hopefully he scores a rake of goals between now and jan when he will likely go in which ill wish him the best - providing some sort of replacement is sorted.4 -
Pretty certain he’s off January. It’s got to the point where I’ve so much faith in Bowyer and Gallen that I won’t be nowhere as bothered as I thought I would be.
I’d look for the next Lyle, Clarke-Harris from Bristol rovers would be my pick, keeps scoring goals in a poor side, cheap and affordable wages and has a good combination of hold up play and pace as does Lyle, 25 years old as well plenty of time for improvement.
And no real pressure on him because we now have depth that could start over him.
It’ll be tough for some to take but we have to look forward.3 -
Hugely impressed with Lyle's attitude this season. So many players in his position have behaved like stroppy teenagers when they haven't been able to engineer a move. People who give him abuse need to take a long hard look at themselves.

If we are pushing hard the playoffs in Jan and he leaves it'll be devasting... make no bones about it3

Shows once again the real issue at hand though, a competent owner would have offered a lucrative deal to Taylor before the end of last season, doesn't take an expert to realise he is a special player for us. Had a late bloom like many other footballers and now someone else will reap the rewards.
I agree with people and think he is being an attention seeker, deleting your social media is a well known attention tactic, if you don't realise that you probably just don't use it enough to see it as often as I have. If he truly didn't want to read nonsense posts he would make his account private or mute words. On the other hand fans following him around is a bit weird unless you're under the age of 16.
Massive shame, could have been a true club legend if we handled this correctly
Taylor will be enticed away in January. roly will be offered sums for Taylor in January. The better the contract that LT is on come 1 January (up to a point), the bigger the offer has to be to sign him. Konsa, Grant, Aribo went for peanuts and pissall because they were on pisspoor contracts. Brentford made millions out of Konsa simply because roly is an arrogant lunatic. Taylor understands this. If he were the cynical mercenary some accuse him of, he'd sign roly's derisory deal now and eff off in January anyway. Pay him something close to median championship wages til December and roly will get it all back and more besides in January. roly's bullshit about minimising the overheads is just that, it simply doesn't wash. Why should we expect any of the players to stick around a minute longer than necessary when they know full well that the captain of the ship is mad, short-sighted, ignorant and self obsessed?3 - Sponsored links:

as ive said before if the contracts were compariable ( within 5% ) to what he would get elsewhere then i would be annoyed as i would like to see a bit of loyalty from him, BUT we know he wont get offered that also - whilst we are "up for sale" the management have a budget there is a ceiling which we can offer him and that is it unfortunately.1
-
Pretty sure Taylor wont leave because of a few idiots calling themselves Charlton fans and lets be honest we have a few nowadays. He will leave because the contract he is on and being offered is lower than anything he would get from any other Championship club and probably a good few League 1 clubs.
Only one person to blame Roland

quoted in one of today's papers;
" who knows where the story ends, but i dont think it's here, nothing changed for me its another challenge "
the transfer window is closed so any chance these journalists can bore off with this crap, until the window opens again.
I am of the opinion that we will offer him a new deal ( which wont be as good as other clubs ) he will then leave and it will be a case of oh hes greedy etc.
someone of lyles age i get, aribo on the other hand its up to him after yesterdays performance in the only matches anyone bothers to watch - he wont be going to the premier league anytime soon and i stick by its a backwards move.

1. Won't finish career at Charlton
2. Championship won't be the height of his fairy tale.2 -
On the flip side of the argument before he come to Charlton he was very much unheard of and been pumping around the lower leagues, I would hope we make him an improved contract offer and very much it’s down to him - he knows we aren’t going to be Able to compete with other clubs, but I think Charlton fans adore him and he won’t get that at other clubs, of course there is a chance that dickhead that owns us just doesn’t offer him a new contract. As I said before if it came down to say us offering 12k a week and another team 14k a week I would be very disappointed.1

I hope we do offer him a reasonable championship salary1

He’s talking about his own career and his development.
Let’s see what happens.6 -
I’m just going to enjoy the ride we’re on at the moment, we haven’t had too many great times in the last 15 years (apart from the people’s cup).
Worrying about things that might, or might not happen is energy sapping to say the least, and sucks the joy out of football.3 -
He's turned into the type of Talisman not seen since a certain Mr Kermorgant got sold shortly after RD arrived.
Sadly I can see his time in SE7 coming to an end in January, it doesn't appear we are going to offer him anywhere near the size of contract he will be offered elsewhere (or deserves) and at 30 before this season is out if someone is substantially going to increase his income on a 3 year deal I don't see him declining it nor RD not accepting a bid knowing he can walk in the summer on a bosman.
The best i'm hoping fo right now is Bowyer works his magic and persuades RD to not sell him in January. We can but hope.
Despite the issues over recent weeks re his transfer you can't say he's not 100% committed in games around that time or since.2 -
