    Agree with Carter and CharltonDan that Xmas is commercialised bollocks. I absolutely hate it, and when I become dictator of this country its getting banned. Full Stop!

    I LOVE Christmas.

    I ignore all the religion (it's winter solstice to me) and over the top commercial rubbish (just don't buy it) but seeing kids opening presents, secret santas, being with family, a full Xmas dinner and a few drinks, meeting up with the in-laws on Boxing day, doing the silly and very difficult picture quiz my father in law does every year, popping into friends for a xmas drink, being at home in a snug warm house when it is cold outside, going for a long walk to walk off all that food and drink, being reminded by my mum and dad of christmas's past and presents I had as a kid and the time that my older brother got shed loads of presents and spent the day putting wrapping paper in a brown ale bottle.....

    Much better than new year but I know AKFA sees Xmas and new year as the same thing. : - )

    Best song - The Band Christmas must be tonight.

    Why oh why does everyone go on about Pouges/Kirsty McCall? It's crap. Absolute shit. Emperors New Clothes. Same people reckon that Teenage Kicks is the best single ever. Bollocks, that' crap too. Just because John Peel said so I guess? ZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

    As for Christmas pop songs my top 3 are:
    3) Christmas Wrapping - The Waitresses ( Really badly covered by Spice Girls)
    2) I Believe in Father Christmas - Greg Lake - Ok maybe an anti Christmas song really but the use of Sergei Prokofiev's Troika is beautiful. It speaks out against the commercialism of Christmas.
    1) Merry Xmas Everybody - Slade. The best Christmas pop song ever - FACT. Means more to you I guess if like No. 2 you remember it first time around. Very evocative for me - when Christmas was really Christmas.

    i find it funny that Dave Hill of Slade is now a Jehovahs Witness and so even though is part of the greatest Christmas song ever written doesn't celebrate himself anymore!

    I heard an excellent but obscure Christmas song by Paddy Roberts from about 40 years ago recently which slags off the commercialisation.

    Probably why it is rarely aired.
