Both Matt Southall and HE Tahnoon Nimer are certainly "talking the talk", and that is very heartening to see.

I now look forward to seeing them "walking the walk".

I'm not seeking miracles; retaining a place in the Championship with some exciting matches, completing the purchase of Sparrows Lane, and engaging meaningfully with CAST & CACT will do me for this season.

Team building in the summer will be interesting, and the content of next season's squad will give us a better feeling for the sporting intent behind the words.
  • “A sensible business plan”!! WTF?
  • Pretty much everything you would want to hear from a new owner. It would seem that at long last CAFC has found a perfect match of club, owner and fans. This is going to be an exciting time.

Must have turned up early to get a program with the express intent of taking that photo and getting those likes. Shocking.
  • I know it’s been said before but HE is a very serious business player and held in high regard. It’s almost inconceivable that he would get involved in a venture that was anything other than well planned and well run. It might not be instant success but organic growth and investment with a manager in Bowyer feeling confident in a five year deal and with good support from the owner should be a recipe for something very exciting.

Definitely gotta be the strange part that Bowyer alluded to

To an extent, I think you’ve got to expect influence from a Comms team.
With respect to HET, while his English is probably very good, it’s still his second language and it would be understandable to run comments through a comms team to ensure nuances aren’t misunderstood or open to interpretation.
Even if you disregard the second language issue, I would expect him to run his first statement through a comms team anyway - In fact, I don’t see any reason why he wouldn’t or shouldn’t.

The important thing in my mind is that HET has clearly taken the communication with fans seriously. He’s found out (directly or indirectly) information about the club, its history and the fans and has made a respectful and positive statement that allows us all to feel both relieved and hopeful as we move into this new era.

One other thing - HET is also expressing excitement. Remember, this is an emotion that we can all identify with. We’re all excited to see what happens. Of course, we’re nervous and a little wary and, being Charlton fans, some of us probably can’t help wondering how it’s all going to go wrong this time! But that’s the thing, we’re passionate about Charlton and all of those emotions are part of the great tapestry of supporting this club.

So, thanks HET. Welcome to Charlton and thanks for the good positive opening statement. It’s hit all the marks we would’ve demanded and has demonstrated a healthy mix of head and heart, which is all we could expect at this early stage.
I hope your excitement develops into the full blown passion we have as a fanbase
and that you truly become one of us.
  • Do you reckon we can get Tahoon in the Valley Cafe?
  • Tahoon is Nailed on to go in the museum Henry, make sure you’ve got some Imodium handy!

    Dear Your Excellency,

I am currently working in Riyadh, but am fortunate enough to get to Abu Dhabi or Dubai (my choice) on a monthly basis.

Just wondered if you fancied a get together sometime, so we can talk all things Charlton Athletic? How about we meet up for Friday brunch, in, say, Stars and Bars on Yas Island, or 'Stills' in the Crowne Plaza. Or for a real 'tacky' (Blackpool like) experience, 'Viewz' on the top floor of the Cristal Hotel, downtown Abu Dhabi.

Likewise, when you fly to your first match, give me a shout and maybe we can go together. I'm more than happy to get to Abu Dhabi to join you on your private jet, but better still, feel free to go via Riyadh and I'll meet up with you there.

    Cheers TN, speak soon hopefully.

, it doesn’t necessarily read as if HE bought the club. If it was fact that really it was his boss that indirectly bought the club through him, nothing in the piece is contrary to this possibility.

We need a simple song for His Excellency when he attends his first game.

To the tune of Blue Moon (and slightly adapting the lyrics):

    Tahhh Noooon
    We are no longer alone
We’ve got a dream in our heart
We’ve got a club of our own

Can we now claim on all things CAFC related "by Royal Appointment to............" . What other clubs can boast that they are located in a Royal Borough and are owned by royalty ?

He isn't royalty! Although I think his boss, who is, may have something to do with things!

If HETN is basically an "asset manager", would it not go without saying that most, if not all, of these 60 companies (Including Charlton) he looks after, utimately belong to the Sheikh?

ESI and the parent company are not in the 60 or so companies that make up ADBD. So technically, no.

You do all realise that all these esi announcements aren't written by HE  or Southall but by PR guru Paul McCarthy?

The intentions are good and the pr slick but suspect HR has never heard of the Valley Party or Derek Hales.

You can't say that with any certainty.

I've written my fair share of CEO statements and columns and they will either send over bullet points or messy paragraphs or even give you a call to tell you roughly what they want to say.
