That or they don't want to overpay average players.
Not sure if you've read Grapevine 49's earlier posts or last night's by iwishidstayedinthepub. These posters are experienced in their respective fields of International Corporate Banking / business dealings and Private Equity ventures. There's a lot of good information to take on board about the integrity, intentions and likely business model of these owners. Southall incidentally, I see as just the front man who has garnered the support of Nimer.
Rome wasn't built in a day and whilst their intentions were good to get new players in and existing contracts sorted it is near nigh impossible during the January transfer window to resolve all these issues. In fact I would say they have impacted badly on each other. It's no good people keeping on and on that they should've done this and should've done that, they haven't for one reason or another and we have to deal with what is in front of us. There are still 18 games and 54 points to play for, 6 wins and 3 draws should see us safe so let's have some patience don't panic (Southall has only officially been holding the reins for 14 working days!) and give the new owners a chance.
As for people misinterpretintg Southall having a contingency in place as acceptance of relegation, all businesses with turnover in the millions will have contingency plans in place in case the sh*t hits the fan! So nothing to see here.
Keep the faith and here's hoping for a point or three from tomorrow's match.20 -
Nobody has gone for pie eating yet, disappointed.3

I've said all along that we are "playing" poker/in an auction, where the stakes/prices are higher and time shorter (as it's January).
The "game" ends when the window closes.
If our target clubs/players fold early in our favour we do the deal.
We might fold early, pay more than we want and do a deal.
If none of the parties fold before deadline day it goes to the wire.
Most parties go to deadline day.
I can't be certain we'll win the game.
The most likely outcome is we're just going to have to wait and see how this plays out.
We must have funds, EFL wouldn't have approved the takeover.
It is more about whether we are willing to pay the asking prices.
Everyone knows this, it's just that some are refusing to accept the reality.13 -

If you are in a relegation battle why are you going to sell your best player and potentially ruin any chance of survival. Even if the team buying that player pay over the odds there is no guarantee you will find a suitable replacement.0 -
I'd be more relaxed about the lack of signings this week if Bowyer himself hadn't said that we needed reinforcements before Fulham
He certainly didn't sound like some who was happy to wait until the 31st January

It looks like ESI took the decision to buy Charlton in August or September when we were in form and riding high in the table. The club they have now has nose-dived for reasons we understand. But I do wonder if ESI are geared up for a relegation battle. I don’t see us getting many points from Fulham or Millwall at home, or Brentford or Leeds away. That puts a lot of pressure on the other games, especially six pointers at home to the bottom three.
This season’s plan to have seasoned professionals peppered with quality loanees has backfired with the injuries and Chelsea recalling possibly the best teenage midfielder I’ve seen in a Charlton shirt. I can understand ESI not wanting to waste money on players in this transfer window; they will want to overhaul the squad in the summer when many are out of contract. But the manager who they appear to be backing with a five year contract is publicly calling out for recruits now. I really hope ESI have a credible plan, be it loanees or purchases.
It’s now too late for the Fulham game, but the next eight days really are crucial.

When we have our full team back, and fit, I honestly struggle to see who can bring in this window who would be a guaranteed first team player for us in the long term. As an example does anyone see Armannd Gnandulliet as a long term investment for the squad, is he going to be the striker to take us to the next level? If we got him in now, would his arrival guarantee us not getting relegated. If you don't think that then all of a sudden having to pay an larger fee and an extra 1k a week for him, to potentially be a 3rd or 4th striker does not make sense. Especially when we want to bring other players in and his wage is the basis they go off.
I can see why Charlton aren't buying these players who have the ability to step up seeing as they're free in the summer, it's a very dangerous game though. We are very far down the list in this league when it comes to wages and general team ability so we will struggle to attract players.1 -
I would say a contingency might have been bring in a player or two on loan who is/are better than one of the not ready youngsters we have had to rely on in January. Where games have been close, they may have made a difference. Hardly reaching for the stars and totally doable.4

I am not ITK, just a Charlton supporter for over 70 years and last week I said. "we will not sign anyone before Thursday week after we have played and lost to Preston and Fulham", I am very rarely right so hopefully, my last prediction will be wrong5

Anyone else a bit worried?
we are 21 days into the window, no signings and our Manager who whinged for a new contract to speed up signings has taken 2 weeks to sign.
we have had two games we could have potentially got an extra 3-4 points in and a game at home tomorrow night we could have more of a chance in.
it defies belief that anyone could not be at all pissed off or concerned about this. We’ve been struggling for numbers for 2 months and we don’t seem in any rush to rectify that problem. Hull for example have signed Malik Wilks, Herbie Kane and Samuelsen.2 -
*weve signed Andre green on loan, my apologies1

If by Feb 1st Bowyer has not signed a contract and our team is still looking weak then it will be time to worry. Until then people need to chill out.8 -

I am actually going but would like to record it, however looking on Sky programs for tomorrow evening there are no Championship game listed, so I assume it’s a no, though someone on another thread said they will be watching it on Red Button. I think they are mistaken.0 -

I love this thread.... said no one ever! 800 new posts of absolute crap and the only potential rumour Clarke-Harris. Thanks all, enjoyed reading some of that
Sorry it is a bit doom and gloom in here, so I thought I would add half a joke in there.

Only 12 of the 24 (including ourselves) have signed anybody, and 6 of those 12 haven't actually increased their squad size as they've let as many or more leave.
Only 4 of the 12 to sign somebody have actually spent any money (Hull and Swansea have brought players in for undisclosed amounts)33 -

Off the top of my head.
Where did Yann come from?
In my view we need to be focusing on filling the 2 available loan spots with players who can come in and add quality for the rest of the season in key areas and keep us up.
We need 2 midfielders to maintain the same numbers as the start if the season. One to replace Gallagher and one to replace Kayal.
We need a striker, even more so if Lyle goes.
Then if we can get in a left sided utility defender or a creative number 10 then that's a bonus.3
