Brighton paid HOW much for Dale Stephens?... and how long ago?Chunes said:
You're funny!supaclive said:
No. I stand by the fact they're not going to go crazy in January but we WILL see real movement in the Summer. You do NOT spend £50m to tread water.Chunes said:

Not much of a hope to hold on to by the way, LB signed a few under Dutchatelet
Honestly you don't.
We've been told who we're modelling ourselves on (Burnley, Brighton, etc. Not Derby or Villa) but carry on...
If we're "only" spending £3m+ on each player I'll be gutted.....2 -
All right. Calm down. Posting what I saw on Twitter.FishCostaFortune said:Why people believe anything they see on twitter is beyond me. It was already mentioned last time this rumour resurfaced that Cullen cannot be recalled now.All I would say is we (Gallen and Bowyer included) didn’t think Gallagher was going. And I’m not sure Ann Summers owning David Gold is the finest authority on the intricacies of the Cullen deal.0 -
Can you answer your own question with a link for proof please? How much did Brighton pay for Stephens.supaclive said:

Only place I can find any sort of fee is TransferMarkt; £750k is whats mentioned on thereChunes said:

I'd have guessed at anything from £500k to £1m max that Brighton would have paid for him0 -
So Man Utd and Spurs both want to try and sign Islam Slimani from Leicester
Bloke has eight goals in 39-games here in England
If anyone wants further proof that the January Transfer Window is the biggest waste of time, there you go!!1 -
Right. Just a bit short of 3 million.
2 -
If we start spending £3m+ on each player in the summer then we need to brace ourselves for a points deduction!!4
-
Huh? I was not in an 'uncalm' state when I posted that. Was mearly pointing out that whatever you read on there should be taken with a rather large pinch of salt.Valley11 said:

750k is his market value at the time, could be very different to what Brighton paidForeverAddickted said:

So just going to ignore the SKY deal that allows them to afford the likes of Webster for £22m then?supaclive said:https://www.transferleague.co.uk/brighton-hove-albion/english-football-teams/brighton-and-hove-albion-transfers
No that's right Brighton spend NOTHING.....
And prior to their Premier League days (2014/15) they got £10m for Ulloa and Buckley
Between that season and their promotion to the Premier League their biggest spend was about £8m4 -
I'm not sure Brighton in their previous Championship season were even subject to the same FFP rules? But can't find that information.0
-
Gratitude? You seen how they are behaving over the Shrewsbury replay ? Got more chance of Gallagher coming back than that.soapboxsam said:Liverpool purloined Joe Gomez off Charlton for 3.5 million. Out of gratitude we should be first on the list for Chirivella to the end of the season. The lad will be in the shop window and then he can move to a club who pay the going rate.0 -
We have 3 years of FFP to think about. Again. Until it doesn't happen there is NO WAY anybody buys Charlton for £50m abd gets Bowyer to sign a 3 year deal UNLESS they are going to be spending serious, not crazy, money to push for the Premier league.Chunes said:I'm not sure Brighton in their previous Championship season were even subject to the same FFP rules? But can then see a UEFA article where it says that FFP rules were eased slightly in 20150 -
Doesnt detract from the fact that Brighton have always spent within their means regardless of FFP or notsupaclive said:

Any funds received from players sold has gone straight back into strengthening the squad, as have parts of their SKY TV deal
Its the way we should be following because if it all goes tits up there will be less risk of us doing a Portsmouth1 -
Burnley, Brighton etc didn’t tread water. They had far more ambition and spent more than us under Roland. Stephens likely cost Brighton more than any fee Bowyer has spent so far.Chunes said:

Out of interest ?Scoham said:Interesting to see how we compare with other Champ clubs in terms of number of signings.
Were any of the above clubs playing 5 youngsters in their 1st team who weren't ready (doughty the exception) and couldn't fill their bench ?
I thought not.
We had an emergency, and Bowyer was so frustrated he voiced his opinions to his new employer in public. Whether fans "Shit themselves" or " stay Chilled' the only part of the equation that matters is the guy who got us to the Championship, Lee Bowyer.
Lee Bowyer was in a shocking position because of the underfunding by Duchatelet and the worse injury crisis since 1921(a guess but you get my drift)
Deryram is only saying what we all know but leaving out the fact that when in an emergency, you should be pro active.14 -
Thank you!Scoham said:

Sigh... Mate. That must be the fourteenth time you've repeated that as if it overrides everything... All the logic to the contrary, the new rules, everything the chairman has said re: investment strategy and exit plan (and he has been transparent and consistent) and all the evidence we've seen so far re: targets and wages.supaclive said:

Do yourself a favour and stop repeating it. It only works in your mind.4 -
People need to stop comparing us to other championship sides, the lack of quality we have compared to the majority is ridiculous and a fair few of them have strong benches, not to mention most don't have the level of setbacks we have had. Quite literally incomparable. There is no way we should be using other championship clubs to justify our lack of activity. Are people forgetting that's what the old lot did before and we crucified them everytime. 'We tried getting ex player over the line but it didn't happen bla bla bla'
Why is that excuse valid now?0 -
I'm not sure what your point is, Sco. Clearly I'm not saying our new owner is going to invest less than RD! And the only person saying we're going to tread water... That was language invented by supaclive as the only possible alternative to not splashing cash. The plan for promotion has been set out pretty clearly by MS and is to be steady and sustainable not boom and bust.Scoham said:

Never gone; lets just blow £3m on every player we sign because our owner is minted
Instead they've been smart in the Transfer Market - Of course we could have done the same but we didnt which is one of the worst memories of the Roland era - Imagine what we could have done from the £11m we got for Fox and Lookman that January Transfer Window, imagine the squad we could have built with that
Bit like the Carl Jenkinson money, people said we brought the League but all we did was invest sensibly4 -
No toy throwing etc but just hoped that this transfer window we wouldn't be at Poundland again. It has all the hall marks of our usual bollox.
Bowyer has said at different times that he wants 3 / 5 . Not much time for either of those wishes to be signed and in the team for Barnsley.
Still we have the guy from MLS let's hope Gallen sees something in him .
Nice to see though that ESI understand the CAFC transfer window tradition of being underwhelmed and hopefully remember to use the phrase "we had bids in for lots of players"
As per prepare to be disappointed it's in the Charlton DNA.
PS just one gem out of Bowyers 3/5 and I'll be happy7 -
Cheap stop gap as Rashford and Kane are both out for months.ForeverAddickted said:So Man Utd and Spurs both want to try and sign Islam Slimani from Leicester

If anyone wants further proof that the January Transfer Window is the biggest waste of time, there you go!!
If they wanted an option beyond the next few months with money no object for wages, then they'd probably have gone for Cavani. But when Rashford and Kane returned, they'd have Cavani potentially sitting on the bench earning 350k a week.2 -
Sam, now that we're BFFs IRL I hope you'll forgive me for saying that the silence would only be telling if, by Friday night at 11pm, we still haven't signed anyone worth signing (not including Green here). I'm still hoping that the wheels are turning behind the scenes. If the signings are non existent or very disappointing, and we lose on Saturday, then it'll possibly be panic stations. But even then, so long as we can keep Taylor, Williams and Cullen [! lol] fit and healthy, I think we'll be fine.soapboxsam said:Todds_right_hook said:
What is the going rate and how do you know we don’t pay it?soapboxsam said:Liverpool
I said as the Window opened, and we replaced Leko with Green that we would learn as much about ESI's budget and Philosophy by who we don't sign. After 28 days, the silence is telling.
The grains of United Arab Emirates sand are slipping through the egg timer1 -
I only watched the game for the last couple of minutes of the second half and then the whole of the second half, so sounds like I didn't see the best of him. However, I did watch Chirvella closely in the second half and wasn't sure what he would add to Charlton. Most of the time he seemed to be sat just in front of the back four, making himself available for passes out of defence and then making 5 yard passes to other midfielders or forwards. We already have Cullen, Pratley and Field who can do that type of job and would have thought a couple of box to box midfielders in the same mould as Gallagher would be a higher priority. Can Chirvella also play in that type of role?RC_CAFC said:On Chirivella, he was class in the first half of the Shrewsbury game, but he clearly tired in the second half, suggesting that he needs some proper game time to get his fitness up.2
