Favours are loan deals. Also do we know exactly when these quotes were made ....... if it was a few days ago then that would sort of make sense.

Maybe I am on my own here, but I think Lee Bowyer's comments show him in very good light.
I will admit that I have not been a fan of Bowyer's since his early playing days and wasn't keen on the leadership of the playing side of the club being given to him. But he's absolutely won me round. As a Manager, he's proving exceptional. And I don't think the comments he's been quoted as saying take any of the shine off that.
As fans, we might want to hear him saying stuff like "we've made offers for several players that have been accepted and I have met the players concerned who are all very keen to join the club. We are hoping to complete the deals in the next 24-48 hours". But, as we know, that's not going to happen. Bowyer is very calmly and carefully setting expectations.
He's setting expectations to fans, who he wants to keep onside when we sign one or two players, and not four or five.
He's setting expectations to clubs we are in negotiation with, who he wants to understand that we are not splashing seven-figure, up-front offers to.
He's setting expectations to potential outgoing players, who he wants to understand that no player will be transferred out of Charlton unless Bowyer himself is ok with it.
And, probably most importantly, he's setting expectations to the Chairman, who he wants to understand that getting the quality and size of the squad right is the most important function of the Chairman (even if the Chairman thinks otherwise).
I think, with this set of quotes, Bowyer has achieved all of that, with quiet subtlety. He knows what he's doing. What he's said is encouraging and makes me think even more, that the playing side of the club is even safer in his hands.16 -

Come back @MuttleyCAFC your fears and mine from early this month are coming to fruition.
My comment in response to your little pop has obviously riled you for some reason but just let it go mate as no offence at you was meant when it was posted off the cuff.0 -
the worrying thing for MS is that if he dont delivery a decent window that bumper crowd on Saturday could easily get twitchy if the result does not come and the good will and feel good factor he was gifted from being the person to remove Roland will be gone and he and ESI will be on the back foot a bit with the fans.1

My take on it is that Agents know this and are asking silly money for their players hence we’ve now turned our attention to the loan market. That plus the fact that our current position in the Championship is putting players off joining us.But did they though?0 -
Matt Southall, you have piss on your hands here12

Love the analysis and if its true then Bowyer is playing a blinder

Nothing to worry about, keep the faith.
Pleased with the window so far as we have got Bows. Green a bonus. Judge them 31st December.11 -

Will see what unfolds and deal with facts. If that ultimately changes my position so be it.

My take on the "haven't bid £1m" statement is that we haven't bid £1m for a player. JCH is probably just below that and/or instalments. Maddison has a few months left on his contract so we probably offered £750k or something
The comment about favours could quite easily be that we are looking to bring players in that the manager doesn't want to part with - and we need them to do us a favour and let the player join.
There could also be a bit of gamesmanship here from Bowyer because we are still being quoted silly figures for players we want to sign

Rangers ''possibly'' need to sign a striker after Defoe got injured last night... literally a week after they announced his permanent signing, how unlucky.
Will they go in for Lyle?

None of us were thinking three weeks ago that 30 hours from the widow shutting we would have lost Gallagher and a Kayal and replaced with Andre Green who I doubt any of us had heard of and the players that we are being linked with are favours and unknowns. If this doesn’t ring alarm bells even with the rose tinted brigade then I don’t know what will. I don’t think anything about this takeover is what we thought.5

Lee Bowyer would have said to Chairman Matt, let Lyle walk at the end of the season if you can't come to an agreement. Southall said to Lee and the fans," Lyle only leaves if we get silly money." The offer may be as low as 2 million ? Was @Redhenry correct when he said the offer made to Taylor was short of 10k a week. As Red Henry was the first person on CL to know about the Duchatelet call in person to Bowyer, his take on this would be interesting.0

He worked with/for Kia Joorabchian, I don't think he had his own stable of players.4 -

But that doesn't mean they'll be willing to spunk it all away.4
