Our records showed his name at registration as "Rubert" but this letter, which he kept all his life, picking him for a game v Bexley says Robert.

Registered with Football League as a Charlton player February 1950 - The football league had Rubert (not Rupert) as his forename but probably is Rupert. Played twice, first at Right half (midfield) then at right back for London Mid-week team in 1949/50.

Despite playing just the two games he lined up alongside some famous names.
As you all know Eddie Firmani went on to play for Italy, Derek Ufton for England and John Hewie for Scotland. Malcolm Allison was better known as a manager of Man City and Crystal Palace but played for Charlton and West Ham.
The family really want some photos of him in action. The museum don't have any, unfortunately.
He did go on to play for Eirth and Belvedere.
He kept this letter all his life so it clearly meant something to him.

He was 39 when he played his last game for Charlton in 1947 16 years after his debut.
He was then appointed coach and later Assistant Manager hence why he signed the letter.

I lived next door to the Fuller's at 8 Witherston way.
I remember Mr and Mrs Fuller as a very kindly lady.
I think they had a son LLoyd and maybe another son who played football.
Never knew he played for Charlton though, the Fullers moved away in the late 1950's.
I was only a youngster so would not have been aware he played for Charlton.
I think their daughter son in law and grandson Glen also lived in the house.6 -
