Hull City v Charlton Athletic
Saturday 14th March 2020 … 3pm Kick-Off
Referee: Darren England
Introduction
Life is never boring as a Charlton fan is it! –
Saturday saw Middlesbrough returning to the North East with all three points,
and a shift in the table that would finally see the Addicks drop into the
relegation places. With our own trip to the North East this weekend being another
important match we all expected it to be a week of nail biting and discussion. Instead
its matters off the pitch that have taken centre stage, an battle in the
boardroom that’ll take some time to resolve and the threat of coronavirus
raising questions if this match will even happen!!
The Opposition
Name: Hull City (21st) | Manager: Grant
McCann
Ground: KC Stadium
Previous Result: Charlton Athletic 2-2 Hull City
Yet for the time being, we must presume that it is
business as usual (whether that is the case before the end of today is another
matter entirely). Hull themselves are in deep trouble; a break in action will
surely suit them more than anyone else (even that may not help). Selling Jarred
Bowen and Kamil Grosicki in the transfer window without adequate replacements
has to be one of the biggest blunders in the Championship this season, it’s a move
that has seen the Tigers go from Play-Off challengers to serious relegation
candidates, a defeat for either team this weekend will be seriously damaging
whenever the season finishes!!
As we have seen from recent club performances
though, bad results against other opposition does not instantly mean that Hull
will turn up on Saturday and surrender the three points. They are a side in
desperate need of the points themselves and whilst they have just the five
points this calendar year, will still prove to be a dangerous challenge… All
eyes though will be on Marcus Maddison; question marks will be raised asking if
we were ever in for him, what with the transfer embargo, yet we have seen from
previous encounters against Peterborough that the wide man knows how to hurt us,
despite having struggled to adapt to Championship Football
Charlton Team News
So once again the attention turns to Lee Bowyer and
his squad selection – For the last few results there have been raised eyebrows
over the manner of the performance but with this mental of weeks it’s a little
bit easier to understand!!
Let us start with the basics though; Tom Lockyer
will return from his two-match suspension whilst Darren Pratley has escaped his
own potential two-match ban by somehow avoiding a booking against Middlesbrough
last week. The obvious positions are covered yet it will be interesting to see
just who gets the nod at Left-Back with both Ben Purrington and Alfie Doughty
struggling there of late. Naby Sarr has been the latest injury concern (and a
big miss at that!!), yet the defender returned to training this week so could
be thrown straight back in!!
Matthews | Lockyer | Sarr | Doughty
Cullen | Pratley | Williams
Green
Bonne | Taylor
Substitutes Bench: Amos | Pearce | Lapslie | McGeady | Forster-Caskey | Davis | Hemed
Prediction
Of course the big concern on the minds of all Charlton fans is whether we’re on a ticking time bomb towards a doomsday scenario what with our latest ownership issues – Whilst we don’t appear to be at that stage it’s important to enjoy our football as much as possible. We have seen in the past that Bowyer is a better Management when he’s chasing league positions rather than protecting them, our drop into the relegation zone may actually work to our advantage!!

If this game goes ahead we have to treat it like a relegation decider. Nothing less than a win will do. Right now Hull look like the only side worse than us. Very real chance this could be the final game of the season, therefore we need to be out of the bottom 3 by the time it ends.
After the dramatic week we've had this could be the best or worst time to play this game. I hope last night's actions galvanise the squad. Hopefully they forget all the owner/chairman issues and get the result we need on the pitch.
Do it for yourselves, do it for us, do it for the Charlton three!
2-1 to the reds, Taylor with a 95th minute penalty winner.1 -
Might be time to stand down already0

Throw them in the bin?... Go up for the day anyway?Croydon said:Anybody know if there's anything we can do about train ticket refunds?
Sorry for being flippant but train companies are absolute scum - No way will they agree to refunds nor will the EFL offer any sort of compensation as a result of those losing out!!2 -
I got an email yesterday from IHG (Holiday Inn) saying that they will allow cancellations for any hotel bookings in the next 2 months free of charge
I don't know if any other hotel chains or the rail companies will follow suit, maybe with government pressure? Otherwise I will just have a weekend in Cardiff anyway!2 -
Phew,At least I might be able to make the playoffs now then...👍0

No disrespect to you FA but I'm more concerned that Lyle Taylor and Cullen to just mention two players may have left Cafc by then.ForeverAddickted said:Hope the season is done by 19th June as off down to Cornwall on Holiday

You'd be lucky. We've just lost 600 euros on a return flight to Argentina. MasterCard say that a pandemic is not in the terms of the insurance.ForeverAddickted said:

Regarding the rest of the season...
Theoretically speaking, if play was to resume on 4th April and we play out the rest of the season, for me the best and most logical solution to all of this would be to cancel all play-offs for this season.
The top three and bottom three go up and down respectively. Instead of the race for top 6, it’s the race for the last automatic promotion place, just like how it used to be.
It allows the games suspended now to be played, the season remaining fixtures pushed back and substituted where the fixtures would be played out in May.
People can’t moan about standings and fairness because the team who finishes 3rd would in the end deserve to be promoted. With how close all of the leagues are at present, it still allows for the competitive nature to remain.
This idea means we don’t have the season dragging on any further into the summer than it needs to, and without the worry of loan players and players out of contract in the summer to be either no longer here, or only a matter of days/weeks away from leaving.6 -

Non-League are still playing if people still travel up and not wanting to waste their ticket.Alternatively it could be worthwhile contacting the train companies regards refunds.1

Banks get a lot of stick but the shit insurers get away with is obscene.jimmymelrose said:

It's a great place. Daughter ran half marathon earlier this year lovely city with lots to see and so. The castle is very interesting and bang in the centre almost.killerandflash said:I got an email yesterday from IHG (Holiday Inn) saying that they will allow cancellations for any hotel bookings in the next 2 months free of charge
