They need suspending without pay until their contracts are up if you ask me.2 -

If you put yourself in his shoes. He's been underpaid for a long time, has one last contract until he has to re-train and find something else to do with his life. He knows that if he gets injured for a while then he probably won't get that last contract. I think a lot of those criticising him would probably do the same.
I get the emotional aspect of it but I think calling him a dickhead, a sewer rat and telling him to fuck off is a little unwarranted.

Can't say I'm not gutted. Bowyer who comes from a time where footballers like him had pride, grit and determination is probably thinking Lyle is a right lightweight especially after seeing his comments this morning.
Obviously Lyle can be expected to feel let down by Roland and ESI and probably thinks feck em!! .. But wheres his pride to say I'll go out with my head held high and show that your the better person by fullfilling your contract!
Clearly money dictates all but it's not a good way to leave the club. He should play until the 30th June anything less leaves a bitter taste.4 -
Whist it's disappointing Lyle won't be playing let's not kid ourselves that he would score enough keep us up, we lost 4 of our last 5 games and only scored in 1 of them - (Lyle with 2 of the 3 against Luton).
I think we have a better chance of staying up now we know who we will have back wanting to play as I think we were 100% going down had the season carried on with Lyle playing.1 -
Surely if he is refusing to play because he does not want to get injured then , he needs to be off our wage bill as of now.4
-
Lyle's position is understandable but deeply disappointing. It's a hammer blow to our chances of survival, which were probably less than 50/50 anyway. He's contracted until 30 June and should, in my view, play the two or three games this month. It's not as if the 2020/21 season is going to start in August either.
To complete the extended season, he'd need to have a binding pre-contract with his new club and their consent to play on. Some kind of insurance policy could probably be taken out to protect their and Lyle's interests but, given our deplorable ownership, that looks a forlorn hope.
Another gut punch.2 -

If Taylor is still training with us, doesn't he risk getting injured, in training?
Would Solly have been considered for a coaching role, next season, which he may not be able to do if he were to get injured?0 -

In Taylors case, or any employee/employer case, I feel you should show some loyalty to an employer who paid you whilst you were unable to work due to injuring yourself whilst working for another company (which your main employer has no control over) and at least fulfil your contractual obligations.
I am deeply disappointed in Taylor's attitude. Not that he'll probably give a shit.
If so 2 months and 3/4 games.0 - Sponsored links:

Hes under contract. This covid crisis is strange times but it’s not a free for all excuse wise. If he did this in December cos he could get a move in January would you be so forgiving?Charlton fans have always been of the manner that if you try hard, put in the effort, then we will respect you. Literally telling the manager you don’t want to play cos you don’t wanna get injured is the polar opposite of that and you should prepare yourself for a bit of stuck.27 -
I’m going to put my bitter hat on and just say Half of his goals this season were penalties. Runs around like headless chicken at times and is one big drama queen. It’ll help me get over it.10

Think the club is missing a trick. He should be called in but but allowed to train get him to do other jobs round the club. As at least that would disrupt his train routine. I do complety get his stance though as we all would do it. Also I would publicly mention the club if they are in the same division as us as surely that's a breach of fair competition1

Shame if he isn't playing but let's be under no illusions where most players' loyalties lie.0 -
Key workers going to work everyday, risking their lives for minimal pay, and Taylor won’t even play a few games of football19
-
Very disappointed. If it was health concerns with the virus I could understand it, but if it’s concerns with his next job, surely that’s a sacking offence?2

There's not really a debate to be had here to be honest. We would rather have Lyle available for the rest of our games and he won't be which is upsetting for us, but we can probably all see where he's coming from and see his logic even if we don't like it. He's been knobbed about by Roland, and then again publicly by Southall, has a bad injury still fresh in his mind and will view his contributions to Charlton in his time here as being sufficient repayment for his wages. We don't have to like that though and we won't.I'm oddly a bit more annoyed about the fact his justification appears to be that he thinks he'd be so worried about being injured he wouldn't be the same player. That sounds to be like a total cop-out story from an intelligent man who realises just flat out refusing hasn't gone down well with his manager, so he needs to change the narrative a little. Regardless though, it's not really ok for him to refuse to play any games that would still normally be within his contract. We at least deserve to get any games that take place before 30th June out of him and there should be no debate there. We can fine him for refusing to play in that time, but if the reason that he's not playing is because he's got a big life-changing contract lined up then see if he gives a shit.Main thing I'm interested in now is how many other teams are in the same position as us? If enough of our rival teams are in the same position then great, but I doubt there's any other teams with contract situations that are as stupid as ours.8

Not going to over the top but very disappointing. He should at least play to the end of his contract ie the games up to and including the 30th of June. In any profession you give your best to the end no matter what the next job and how attractive it is. You can get injured at anytime could have happened in April or March. Respect the contract.10

Has questioned if the club are capable of doing that though
Acknowledges that Taylor is 30 compared to Murphy being 20 when he went from Crewe to Liverpool
Yet says that playing with the fear of injury is not a good place to be in
Even if he doesn't have a contract in place an insurance policy could be taken out by the club, in Lyle's favour, covering the earnings that he could expect to receive over the next three years following a move.
Of course, the club won't do that because it doesn't have proper leadership and doesn't have a pot to piss in.
Can't blame Lyle at all and I hope that he gets the move that his talent deserves.0 -

On the plus side, so glad Bow sounds like he's still onboard and has that old-fashioned loyalty and a conscience that seems to be so desperately lacking in the sport these days

Posted in wrong thread....Charltonparklane saidI've loved having Lyle as part of The side past 2 years but I understand his predicament. Dissapointing but like the honesty that he won't be trying his hardest. Cheers for everthing but let's concentrate on what we have.
HONESTLY I'd rather it was Taylor, Solly, Davis that Pratley, Nabby, Lockyer that was mentioned last week.2 -

Very disappointing and a breach of contract (surely), particularly so given the situation we are in and his importance to the team, no excuse. Whatever he's had to put up with so have others, this is about his character (or lack of it) not anyone else's.3
-
At least this is in the open, better than Taylor playing and not giving 100% at a crucial time of the season.
Bonne, Green and Davidson may not have the experience but if they give maximum effort then let's see how it goes.4 -
I think his point that he won't be trying his hardest is a typical wanker's way to let someone down lighlty; eg "It's not you, it's me! You're better off without me"3
-
Hopefully Bonne can step again like he did last time, and we can forget about Lyle even quicker.
