Lyle Taylor isn't getting a big money move because of Charlton, he's getting a move because Lyle Taylor has performed consistently well over the past few seasons in every league he's played in from league 2 upwards.
The irony of course is that Natalie Sawyer is a Brentford fan so may well be cheering him on in a few months.
Not hugely surprised by this given Taylor's approach to contracts in the past and his preference for going free agent. All the same, it's extremely disappointing that when the chips are down and Charlton are in the relegation places, he just thinks about himself and the team can go hang. I wouldn't want to sit next to someone like that in a changing room and I wouldn't have his back out on the pitch either.
He's off, we have had this happen many times before to us, as have most football fans so it doesnt surprise me.
It always gave me hope seeing Lyle in the team, he was a good player for us and scored a number of memorable goals, Forest away being the most recent that springs to mind.
Loved the way he wound up the opposition but his strops and dramatics for the last year or so made it quite clear that he would not be staying long.
He will make the step up, he may well score for his new side just as he did for us, he may well end up playing regularly as a second striker to a youngster or he may end up as a sub/squad player and no longer the star. Whatever the outcome he will be financially secure.
Legend however is a big word and not to be banded about lightly, Lyle, for me, is a long way from being an Addicks legend, just as I wouldnt really have let Nicky Bailey shag my wife, Lyle is an extremely popular, talented player in the current team.
If we still sing his name in a decade he will be a legend, if he is able to walk back onto the Valley turf to a standing ovation when he returns with someone else he will be a legend.
I may be wrong but I can't see either of those happening at the moment.
Disappointed yes, very, but certainly not surprised. He’s being pragmatic and looking to protect his future livelihood. If we weren’t run by a bunch of conmen and chancers we maybe could have signed him to a new contract, rather than pissing the money away on Range Rovers, Flats and consultancy fees. Plus if you were in Lyles shoes wouldn’t you be pleased to get out of this train wreck of a club. I have never been so disillusioned with my lot as a Charlton fan.

Yes it’s happened lots of times before and will happen innumerable times in the future but it still hurts us fans. I always say it every time it happens but if they want out then good luck and close the door on the way out. You won’t be that missed.
Anyway, this is a big blow, after spending the last few weeks basically telling all and sundry that Southall is unethical it kind of feels like Taylor has lost his high horse here.
Must be pretty terrible for squad morale too, our best player has given up on us.

I do not blame him for wanting to leave at the end of his contract - a contract that I believe has his signature at the bottom! If he was prepared to sign that contract two years ago (I'm not aware a gun was held to his head), he should be prepared to honour that contract.
Not going to over the top but very disappointing. He should at least play to the end of his contract ie the games up to and including the 30th of June. In any profession you give your best to the end no matter what the next job and how attractive it is. You can get injured at anytime could have happened in April or March. Respect the contract.

Taylor could have said that he had a back injury but didn't. Given the amount of abuse as a result of the Club suggesting that he had refused to sign an improved contract I'm not all together surprised by his stance.
Southall turned fans against him and Bowyer (who let us not forget happily signed a new contract) did not tell us the actual situation either with regards to Taylor or the embargo.
Don't pay him from the time he stops playing for us. They might well be only one or two games.
But the definition of professionalism is to do the job even when it’s not all sunshine and rainbows. I don’t need him to paint a rose tinted spectacles view of the club or us as supporters. (though personally I think it helps). I just need him to give his best to the very end. Then il wish him all the very very best.

This is exactly how I feel about it. I'm disappointed he won't play but I understand it and if I was in his shoes I'd probably do the same.
I retire from the fire brigade in just over 2 years time, i think the last month of my 30 year contract i'm going to tell the brigade i'm not going to go to any more fires as i dont want to get burnt, i wonder what they'll say 🤔😏
You have Lyle Taylor and then you have the likes of Jonny Williams and Adam Matthews. All players out of contract come 30 June but the latter are consummate professionals. Lyle Taylor is behaving like a pilot who refuses to fly his plane because it might crash.

30 years old, played in the lower divisions all his career apart from a few games this season. Can't see him getting a move to the premier unless its the Scottish prem.

Do grow up. Try looking at the bigger picture and not just from a Charlton fan's point of view.
Taylors lack of availability earlier in the season because he went to play international football for Montserrat which has a total population of just 5,000 people - yes that's right onlyfive thousand is likely to be the biggest reason for our relegation. Bearing in mind who pays his wages, I thought that was totally ridiculous at the time and should not have been allowed by the club and this latest no play despite under contract adds insult to injury. Not having your main striker available for over 20 games because of 2 selfish decisions might make sense for Taylor but its terrible business for the club and its supporters.

I feel like Taylor knows that Charlton can't do anything without coming off as the bad side. So he can do what he likes.
