Redhenry said:Put yourself in his shoes. He was head and shoulders above most in our squad. RD offered him a new contract, not sure how much but say 10k a week. New arab owner comes in and offers 5k. CEO tells lies and calls him out. Then a host of clubs come calling offering him more money than he's ever seen in his life. What would you do? He always gave his all for us, you can't ask for more than that...All I expected from Taylor was for him to honour his contract and be available for 3 more games. That would have been the decent thing to do.20

He's a prick.5 -

Lyles never going to play for us again, get over it.
Best thing to do is dont get taken in by players.
Hardly any of them are loyal, there not like you or me who will be here till death.
Lyle always said if a better chance came along he would be off like a shot.
His in the past now and we move on.1 -
Compare Taylor with Pearce.
One refuses to play the last 3 remaining games of his contract.
One whose wife is heavily pregnant and the lack of knowledge regarding the risk of covid 19. Drove himself to Hull on the morning of the game to play and score.
Speaks volumes about their individual characters.66 -

Mad how simple it is and how many time’s it’s been said. Nobody begrudges Lyle wanting out of a mental case club and improve his salary. BUT he was still in contract until 30th June and should have played in any games before that date. He chose not too, and for that, he’s a wanker.55

Thus Lyle and Solly would be expected to play on, but also that the likes of Toby Stevenson would get an extra month's salary as well, thus benefiting the PFA's less well paid members.
It's possible that a half arsed Lyle saving himself for his next move wouldn't be worth picking anyway, but that should be Bowyer's decision to make, not Lyle's.3 -

Definitely poor form on Taylor’s part. He should have honoured the terms of his contract and played if Bowyer wanted him to play.0

If players can choose not to play, then clubs can choose not to pay players (plainly both are wrong/ridiculous).2 -

This is where the PFA needed to take a lead0 - Sponsored links:

superdulvertonred said:I though Barnes did well for us not mobile but still class on the ball enjoyed seeing him in our red shirt, Certainly no negatives for me.
There's a page in his autobiography about his time with Charlton. I'm paraphrasing, because I read it over ten years ago in WHSmiths, whilst my wife was trying on shoes, so may not get all the details 100% correct.
He said, when he signed Curbishley told him the team were really good at closing other teams down and winning the ball but once they got it didn't know what to do. He wanted Barnes to be able to put his foot on the ball and look for an intelligent pass. Barnes liked the club and said the team would have run through walls for Curbishley at the time.
Unfortunately, he didn't write much more about Charlton - lots of waffle about winning the European cup and scoring against Brazil and I couldn't be bothered to read that.

I would like to see taylor give £50,000 to the Charlton Womans team as a going away present.
Some mitigation for refusing to play.5 -

Do we know if the club stopped paying him, and stopped him using our training facilities for another clubs benefit when he made it clear he wasn’t going to play?
i really hope so5 -
