Loan players

edited January 2009 in General Charlton
How many is that now this season?

And how many was it last season?

It's eleven and Scoham has very cleverly organised them into a team in another thread, which I copy here. Apart from the makeshift goalie, it's not actually a bad side for a bunch of wandering mercenaries who couldn't get a game at their parent clubs !
    --------------------------------------
Scoham's "Loanee XI" for this season :

Cranie (he's played all over the back four, might as well be the one to go in goal)

    Murty Primus Ward McEveley

    Gillespie Soares Bouazza

    Burton Kandol Waghorn

Spring on the bench as he was on loan for a few days until he signed properly.
    -------------------------------------------

I'll look up how many loanees last season afrter breakfast. But if Kandol and Ward both appear today, we will in total have fielded 37 players this season, one behind last year's record of 38.
  • So, 12 then Nigel?
  • I guess 12 if you count the fact that Spring was briefly on loan, Off_It. But I'm not sure we should really count him, as it was only for about 48 hours to allow him to make his debut while the paperwork went through on his permanent transfer.
  • Yeah, sod it - let's count him. A loan is a loan. After all, we're counting Gillespie and he was virtually non-existant!
  • I've said we used 38 players last year and should today reach 37 for this season. But just to put those figures in context:

In the 1985/86 season - perhaps the last time the club suffered a comparable off-the-field crisis with no money and the move to Selhurst Park - we fielded just 20 players in 47 league and cup matches. In terms of a settled side, we had 10 players who appeared in 35 or more of our 42 league games.

In that 85/86 season, we got promoted from the second tier, not relegated from it.

Draw whatever conclusions you think appropriate.
  • conclusion drawn: in 85/86 we had a decent first team which was fortunate to stay fairly clear of injuries. This year we started with a useless first team squad who were on the whole too small for this division and have tried torectify it ever since. Plus you never change a winning team, you generally always change a losing one.
  • I'm sure you have identified several very important conclusions there, Valleyman.

But even given Pardew's crap scattergun signings and the unbalanced squad he left, it still seems extraordnary that in his first four games as permanent manager this month, Parky used more players (24) than Lennie Lawrence had at his disposal in an entire season!

Fair points. I think the number of injuries, a long with Pardew's constant changes even when we did win, can't be overlooked.

    Weaver

    Semedo Fortune Primus McEverly

    Ambrose Racon Bailey ZZ

    Gray Todorov

A whole team of crocks (although with Primus and Toddy that was always a risk) who when fit look, on paper at least a decent side.

    I blame Nicky Davies!

Interesting article by him in the Palace programme about fitness and conditioning regimes changing since Parky brought him back in
  • Excellent, Henry.

Your XI crocks v Scoham's XI loanees. Perhaps we could stage the game at the end of the season as our contribution to Murty's testimonial and a ''thank you'' to him for helping to keep us up (we can continue to dream for a little longer!)

Hate to ruin the dream but a complete non starter that one - one team wouldn't turn up because of injury and the other due to total apathy.

Non starter have you watched us this year??!!! This team has been pretty much half of one half of other, and guess what total apathy out there!!

    Nice try!
But if we all turned up to that match, we would at least be guaranteed a clean sheet.

The team of crocks would still be injured and not fit to play.
And the team of loanees would all have returned to their parent clubs.

What about a pointless signings 11?

    Paul Rachubka

Simon Walton Paulo Monteiro Mark Staunton Cory Gibbs

Martin Christensen Dean Sinclair Dorian Smith Mikkel Jensen

    Rurik Gislason

    Stuart Fleetwood

    Sub:
    Jani Tanska

Only players that have barely played, if at all for us, and not youth players. Cory Gibbs only because his injuries, unlike a lot of them he probably would have done a good job.
  • Paul Hubcaps or whatever he's called - now playing for Blackpool.

Signed from Man U for £200,000 and spent 2 years with us, never played a game?
  • Harsh on Gibbs cos as you say he was injured.

Fleetwood is a bit early as well. Only been here 5 or 6 months

Other OK bar you left out "uninspiring" Matt Spring (little joke for Rothko)

Shuffled your mortal coil laughing with that one, Henry ?
