Henry Irving said:Alfie is an interesting test case for Sandgaard.
He has already mentioned no longer selling young players to pay the wage bills.
It's possible that Grant will be sold soon so we get a sell on, Bonne has gone to so there has been some money coming in.
As a club we'll still be heavily relying on Thomas's dollars to pay the bills but we don't "need" to sell him.
So does TS hold firm, unless we get a very big offer, but then face the criticism from SOME fans that "nothing has changed we always sell our best players cheap" or does he keep Alfie the Spanner and risk losing him for just a development fee next summer.
He might persuade Alfie to sign a new deal or even sell him in January but that is a big maybe.

Richard J said:Athletico Charlton said:We will not get to the PL in 10 years by continually selling our better players and replacing them with loanees and Palace cast offs
Our record of success with ex Palace players is dismal...
Butterfield, Borrowdale, Sorondo, McKenzie, Soares, Kaikai, Marcus Bent, Hudson, Jonny Williams, Dowie have all failed to live up to expectations. Watson too early to tell. David Whyte and Chris Powell, Hreiderson and Rhoys Wiggins the only exceptions... Pardew best forgotten.3 -
Right who is next then?
We want more, we want more...16 -

I love that we’re keeping things in house and under wraps until the last minute with the signings. It’s settling to know that things are happening behind the scenes now, as silence previously meant just that - that very little was going on. The fact that Cawley isn’t even aware of things says that we’re going about our player recruitment differently, and hopefully won’t be messed with as we’ve seen before. A much more professional way of conducting business.4

5' 6". Sounds more like Charlton. Welome Ian!

So is our Defence sorted now do people think? - Or should we be going for another Centre-Back?0

Our team is starting to come together really nicely imo.
Amos
Gunter Inniss Famewo Maasten
Watson Levitt Gilbey
Maddison Bogle Doughty
Subs: AMB, Purrington, Pearce, Pratley, Williams, Aneke, Washington.

Gotts to come in as Midfield / Right-Back cover
Smyth to come in as the last Striker and last loan signing
Maybe one perm to replace Doughty if he goes?4 -

With Maatsen on board and the rumours about Paul Smyth, I assume the latter is an option if Alfie goes.

At this rate, the first live league game back at The Valley may have a starting line up of "never seen before" players for me !!12

"Eagles manager Bowyer." EAGLES. MANAGER. BOWYER!?!?1 -
Bowyer said he wanted 5 on Friday. Three have since signed. Imagine another 2 on loan.
One of them must surely be another striker.

We’ve had good keepers here for years
We’ve always had so many
Phillips will be forgotten soon
Goalkeepers - two a penny
Shake it up baby all you like
We all went ha ha ha
But let’s be honest, your fuck up
was blamed on Nabby Sarr

Great work by LB and team. I guess we need another forward now and we'll be in good shape. Anything beyond that is a bonus, or a replacement for Doughty if he goes.0
-
It's jyust as important with a lot of midweek games coming up and of course the injuries we'll inevitably pick up, to have a squad that enables Bowyer to rotate where necessary. Its now coming together.I expect to see a couple more go out on loan. Lapslie could definitely do with a loan spell somewhere.0
-
It's really looking like a decent team. And with a few more to go.1

Callumcafc said:I won’t believe Doughty’s leaving until it’s “confirmed” by Rich Cawley and/or Pete O’Rourke. Unfortunately RH’s recent track record isn’t as stellar as it once was so I’m a little less inclined to believe it.
There’s about five pages of people calling him greedy etc over one whisper that was posted up here earlier today. Imagine if nothing’s happened and he’s reading those posts LOL.
to think he'll be sitting at home reading CL when I'm sure he's online choosing what flash motor he'll buy with his signing on fee from luton town.0 -

Bowyer’s moved to a 4-3-3 formation and building the squad with that in mind. You’d think he wouldn’t have to completely change his plans just by one player leaving.
LB has talked about "different systems" back normally about 3 or 4 at the back.
Changing to 433, as the default, would have needed major surgery. Where would you put Williams, Oztumer, Aneke etc in a 433?
Edit. Hmm 3 hours too late :-(1 -

Jokes aside; Naby Sarr was also 6ft 5in
