George Lapslie (Pg 24 - Signed for Bradford City)

Bit surprised by the last few pages as I've always got the impression he was not rated on here. Was frequently called a headless chicken, which was not unfair. He looked lost a lot of the times I've seen him.
He's 23. For comparison, Albie Morgan is 20 and Vennings is 19. It's really time to push on now or to find his level, at least. Is this a 'Scott Parker to Norwich' style transformation? Have to wait and see.0 -
He must love being 'the man' at Mansfield after being a bit part player with us. If his hot streak continues until Christmas I wouldn't be surprised if one of the Glasgow clubs tries to tap him up.13

Yeah, They'll think Lapslie is the answer to their LB problem.SantaClaus said:He must love being 'the man' at Mansfield after being a bit part player with us. If his hot streak continues until Christmas I wouldn't be surprised if one of the Glasgow clubs tries to tap him up.

The intensity in the clip above almost looks U23 level, dare I say without any discredit. As Chunes says, it's all about finding the right level now.0

Has been told he can leave on a Free Transfer... Sad way for his Charlton career to end!!

Didn't see this one coming , know he's down the pecking order but thought his loan form might have brought him back into the fray.ForeverAddickted said:Has been told he can leave on a Free Transfer... Sad way for his Charlton career to end!!

Feel sorry for him, almost like a Phil Jones type player who sacrificed himself to play wherever he was needed so wonder if that has hindered his progression here. I wonder if we're paying some of his wages though with this loan, and he's effectively been told that if he wants to make his Mansfield move permanent then he's free to do so, as it then means the club can use the rest of the wages their paying him elsewhere1 -
A real shame but needs must.
The wage cap makes such decisions even more imperative.
Sure he'll have a good career as a player and stay in the game after he retires given his degree.
I wonder if someone other than Mansfield will come in for him.5 -
Blimey - didn't see that one coming. Useful, reliable, versatile and with a great engine - surely just the sort of player all clubs need.
There must be some serious plans for future incoming players if we can afford to offload someone like gorgeous George on a free.

Oh definitely , never seemed to have a defined position and his willingness to run himself into the ground wherever he was needed to play has almost counted against him.ForeverAddickted said:

He'll go on to have a very solid EFL career I'm sure.6 -
Shame for him especially being a fan but I’m not surprised with the ambition TS has. We’ll be looking to bring in top end League 1 players and any younger signings will be players we see with Championship potential (or more).
If Lapslie can keep scoring he might get there in time, but not as quickly as TS wants us to.
The salary cap doesn’t give you room to keep squad players on the off chance they develop. The best way for him to do that is through regular game time which he wasn’t going to get here. Good luck to him.13 -
Shame. Curse the wage cap. New players coming in.

Just read the article:ForeverAddickted said:Has been told he can leave on a Free Transfer... Sad way for his Charlton career to end!!

"But the South London Press has been told that Lapslie has been cleared to make a permanent exit from SE7."
The wording makes it sound like Mansfield's or the player's request.

Sad to see him go, but probably for George's good. He's been a squad/backup player for us and at the age of 23 really needs to find a club where he can nail down a regular place, I imagine he's loving being one of the main men at Mansfield.
From a selfish pov, it would be nice though if we could sell him in January but with a sell on clause so we benefit if he does move on for a decent fee9 -
Wouldnt be surprised either if its at Lapslie's request... He's a Charlton fan himself so knows what is at stakeOggy Red said:
