If he wants physicality in midfield why has Pratley been playing at center half!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!12
-
The absolute last thing I would have said we needed was a physical midfielder.
So when our defenders are back fit, we could potentially have a midfield of Watson + Pratley + Another physical midfielder? That is going to be a joy to watch.
I pray to the old gods and the new that he's seen Watson's legs have gone and he's looking for someone new to play there.1 -

Interesting comments from Bowyer about covid.
Compared to other sides - especially in league 1 - are our players just being extra sensible, and our rules within the training ground are extra tight, or is it just luck too. Guess it could be both, but nonetheless interesting how we're getting a full first team of negative tests compared to other sides struggling to control the spread.4 -
That will be a first......🤔Shrew said:Back to winning ways 2-1, after letting in the obligatory first goal.2 -

Don't like those quotes from Bowyer. Can't see how it's not possible for a player to play Friday night & then tues evening. Always happened in the past & I know I keep banging on about it the pitches in the 60's & 70's were a lot heavier & harder to run on than the ones today.....and there was only 1 substitute.
Anyway, back to friday night. Lumping this game with Rochdale I will say that if we don't get at least 4 points from them then by the end of Jan we will be outside the top 6 & jostling with Sunderland, Oxford & Fleetwood. If they beat us on Friday Accrington will go above us. Nothing against them but if we are really looking to get promoted this season (which I doubt we will) then this is a MUST WIN game. We should come out all guns blazing, with 2 of Maddison, Morgan or Williams in the team. We would all like to see Aneke start instead of Bogle but sadly previous matches have shown that Aneke is better coming on as a sub. If it were me ( and I know you are all so glad I'm not the manager) I would start with Schwartz. He might not have played any matches but a seasoned pro can play 45 mins.....and can't be any worse than Bogle. He would also bring energy & passion - showing us fans what he can give us.
But sadly I feel Bowyer will revert to type - if he starts with round pegs in square holes then another defeat is surely on the cards. And the gods are not on our side as a live tv match, under lights on a weekday has not given us joy for many a year.

I'd go with this side:
(Following my Statbank post)
Maddison can push forward with Millar coming on for Williams, Schwartz on for Bogle and only use other subs as needed.Dazzler21 said:It's funny really if you look at it as Goal Interactions, rather than just goals, Bogle's doing almost as well as the other two.
Top 10 GI for All comps

4. Bogle 5 (2/3) 769 mp / 153.8 per gi
5. JFC 5 (2/3) 1,154 /230.8 per gi
6. Williams 4 (2/2) 731 / 182.8
7. Shinnie 4 (1/3) 952 / 238
8. Maddison 3 (1/2) 511 / 170.3
9. Doughty 3 (1/2) 815 / 271.6
10. Smyth 3 (1/2) 555 / 185
Best GI/ Mins according to the above
76.8 - Aneke
125.5 - Morgan
153.8 - Bogle
170.3 - Maddison
182.8 - Williams
185.0 - Smyth
197.4 - Washington
230.8 - JFC
238.0 - Shinnie
271.6 - Doughty
This leads me to a very odd conclusion... We should play the following formation:
You can have that one for free Lee.
(G/A data = Statbank on Charlton Life, Minutes played = all comps on Transfermarkt)
If Levitt is here, he makes the bench ahead of Purrington for me.
2-1 coming from behind.0 -
It is a crude tool, but a valid one, to get goal interactions into the side that lacks goals and chances. Also, I fear it may not work, but we have only seen 5 minutes of Bogle and Aneke. Ok we got a goal in those 5 minutes but that may not mean anything. I have been amazed how Bowyer has not even been curious to explore that since though.
Mind you I have ben curious as to most of Bowyer's decisions. My patience ran out on Saturday, I suspect many more will follow if he continues this madness.2 -

5 of that front 6 looks remarkable familiar to something I sent a certain someone on whatsapp the other day, any ideas @ForeverAddickted 🤣🤣🤣🤣

This might sound like madness, but just an idea, what about playing your best side available, with players in their right positions, and try to score. The recent shite isn't working4

They didn't play at the same pace or intensity in the 70s and 80s, you only have to look at the Big Match games from that period to see that and the crappy pitches although more energy sapping seems to slow the game down as well.golfaddick said:Don't like those quotes from Bowyer. On the other hand defenders didn't spend ages passing the ball backwards & sideways so the strikers can have a breather. In the "olden" days the keeper used to just boot the ball upfield, or in a cultured team let the defenders do it. I don't remember too many times Les Berry giving it to Phil Warman, who passes it to Steve Gritt who passes it back to Les Berry who then gives it to Nicky JohnsHal1x said:

In an ideal world we'll go out attacking, steam into a side who haven't played for almost 3 weeks and catch them cold.
In a Charlton world we'll be 1-0 down early on to a calamitous own goal.1 -
4-0 to the Addicks - hattrick for Bogle.4
-
2-0 Charlton. Think it will be a pants game as we try get come confidence back so may be a bit tentative. Hopefully not and we revert to back to the good brand of football we were playing at the start of the season.
Lets keep things nice and simple.

Attack, attack, attack attack attack!
Start at least two of Maddison, Morgan and Williams.
Aneke up front.
Maatsen or Purrington at left back.
Millar and Schwartz subbed on to kill the game off.
No experiments to counter the opposition like Bogle at DM or recalling Oztumer to play him at CB.
If Bowyer doesn’t change his ways he needs a late visit by the ghosts of successful Charlton managers past, present and future.6 -
We need fresh impetus in the attacking third NOW.
I' ll be hugely disappointed if Millar and Schwarz don't play some part on Friday.
However, like I said the other day, I fully expect to hear how Schwarz needs to be " brought up to fitness" and how his game time needed to be "managed".
I want to see improvement but half expect the same shit until February.

They did change the pass back to the goalkeeper for a reason though 😉golfaddick said:

With Oshilaja playing, without Pratley and Watson, I can see Bow playing a back 3 or 5, however you want to look at it. Oshilaja venturing into the base of a diamond midfield at times if needed but this way pushes Maatsen where we want him.
Who are they are a nasty and physical side, but they can also play football too. We will need to be treating this game as exactly as we should if they’re in the top six. Minus last week, our record is good. They’re likely to fall away as the season goes on, 30 games to play in 4 months is a hell of a lot.Amos

Ok, stupid question alert!
It's on SKY, so how do I watch it, as I normally use the Valley Pass streaming service and it appears the game isn't going to be shown on that?
I'm willing to pay, but not for an 18 months SKY Sports package.0 -
