scraping a draw against such a low ranked low budget side is dismal
The first quarter of the game was Bowyer’s lowest moment yet
Entirely self imposed problems
Risible stupid wrong headed
Reset with players in their natural positions and fuck me 5 times til Friday they all look decent except Gilbey he’s a shirking twonk
Manager can’t do anything about a goalie who sets his own wall then stands behind it leaving a yawning gap for a firmly struck but arrow straight shot which should have hit him in the face if he positioned himself properly
Chuks did some tough stuff well but some simple stuff terribly Had 3 sitters to complete his hatrick and fluffed em comically
Kettle wasn’t as terrible as usual but was still no good
Pearce’s horrible lack of pace achingly obvious A centre half is Essential this window
Millar and Schwartz look fine additions
As swift as Bow has been to Chuck stragglers under the bus he has to own up to handing Dale their 2 goal headstart tonight tossing away 2 points in his funk of confusion and muddle
Never will a 4 - 4 draw be remembered as such a disappointing fiasco
Props to the players for dragging themselves up and getting smthn from the game2 -
I wonder if we'll play 3 at the back with Gunter-Osh-Purrington.

I'll start by saying Bowyer got it wrong with starting Smyth at RWB, but he will know that better than anyone. Once we went to basics we looked a lot better and played some great football imo, JFC who I usually accuse of being average was making things really tick, like a charity shop Toni Kroos. Aneke was terrific, could have scored 4 or more genuinely, Williams energetic. I could go on but we all saw the same game. Special mention for Oshi, solid game and has earned the right to start. Pearce and Gilbey only negatives, Pearce is alarmingly panicked for such an experienced player, late challenges, typical hoofs and on a rewatch it was a yellow, can't fault his effort but it was one. Gilbey seems really poor, I won't write him off yet cause he put in some good tackles and showed some good awareness but he just doesn't offer enough for me.
Personally I am happy with the result as it's shut down a few comments on here. Clearly the dressing room is not lost, there is fight in this team, now you can say 'The players don't wanna lose!' but that's nonsense as some of you are willing to blame Lee for his tactics, he also needs credit where it's due, he has the respect of these players. We also showed we can play attractive football with the right players on the pitch, it's just our defense that is absolutely shoddy atm.
Finally I'll wrap it up with this & I'm not bothered how it comes across, to anyone messaging Sandgaard on twitter or any other social media platform trying to push Lee out, you are pathetic and I am embarrassed to be associated with you by the team I support.
We are well in this, 100% behind Bowyer and the lads, on to the next one
I am fairly confident had we lost tonight this thread would be a bit more active0 -
I'm sorry Pearce but your comment about something to build on is the thing somebody day s when they know it's not good enough again. I think it's great to score four goals. What is unacceptable is shipping four by half time. Rochdale aren't a European super power. They aren't even a mid table Championship side, they aren't even a mid table League One side. They are relegation fodder, with a league form as dreadful as ours. The depths our clubs expectations and standards have sunk to is so far from success we celebrate a draw at home to Rochdale. Nope I'm not having that Pearce. My glass is considably emptier as each game passes. Something is really wrong when fans are happy that a player gets sent off to keep them out of the side. The whole is definably less than the sum of its parts. A clear out is needed. Not sure who, thankfully that is not my decision.
I'm so pissed off to feel that a draw against Rochdale is a good result and I actually do feel that it's a good result under the circumstances. But that is the point. Our club is in a rebuilding stage and it feels that it will get worse before it gets better, it's darkest before dawn blah de blah.
Thanks Lee and the boys for trying. Still only a C+ for that though.1 -

Just saying ....
Oh, you want us to concede less too?
If you would care to read what I wrote I simply said that although we might have scored more goals than anyone else we have played more games than virtually all the other teams.....certainly in the top 8. Only lincoln have played the same number of games as us. Some teams have 2 or 3 games in hand over us. Will be a different picture by then.
But I am pleased we scored 4. Cracking game & better than a dull 0-0.

Watching that second half was great. It is still very difficult to see what our best team would be if everyone was fit. I would probably go with this line up. We will then also have options on the bench to bring on as required. I think that is probably a promotion team but we are unlikely to see it due to injuries which is a shame. The four players missing from that team below would make a huge difference and if we can get that team out or one very similar I can see a play off place for sure. We just need to come up with a settled line up which I am hoping after today Lee has a much better idea of what it is. All is not lost yet!!!

We played 3 at the back because they play with 2 strikers...wtf ??? Teams have been playing 2 strikers ever since the game was invented. Jesus wept. It's hardly a new approach.1 -

Yes we looked much better in the second half, but that's because we had better players than Rochdale out there, rather than because of any tactical masterstroke. There won't be many better strike duos in this division than Chuks and Ronnie1 -
Sadly, or luckily, I ws on a zoom call for all bar the last 3 minutes.
Have I read it right, he put Smyth at right wing back? WTF!2 -
covered_end_junior said:I think it buys Bowyer some time for now at least. The shape first half was all wrong, Deji looked uncomfortable on the left side of a back three and was far too high up the pitch at certain points. That along with a couple of other players pushing too high up left us very open at the back. Smyth at right wing back was just crazy as well.Much better second half though once we seemed to go back to basics. Aneke was superb, Millar was impressive as well and got us up the pitch and Ronnie took his goal very well.Fingers crossed we can stop the chopping and changing of players and formations now and find a settled side.2

This image sums up our defensive issues of players deciding the wrong option and all too often the laziest one. Gilbey has decided to join the back 3 rather than track his midfield runner who scored from this.
Nice big hole in the wall. It looks the size of a, ermm, human. Their player absolutely laced it to perfection but if setup properly it should have just knocked some brain cells into our player.4 -

We are well in this, 100% behind Bowyer and the lads, on to the next oneI’m not talking about criticisms of tactics or performances, that’s more than warranted - but looking at the sheer anger being directed at individuals makes me embarrassed to be a Charlton fan at times.
Got a decent owner and expect everything to come together some fans do, 0 patience
And none of them have worked.
I agree fans shouldn't be going onto social media & asking the owner to sack the manager......but there comes a time when the manager needs his head examining.2 -

No credit for two very effective substitutions at half time, switching to 4-4-2 and getting the team to play with way more urgency and determination?

The day I yank myself around the front room after a 4-4 with a team as piss poor as Rochdale is the day we know we are as shit a team as we have been in my 44 years of watching Charlton . Well tonight that day arrived .
What a pathetic place we are in and fuck being reasonable or whatever I can’t have any of that bollox while palace are constantly laughing at how shit we are from two divisions above and have been for eons and even millwall fucking pity us .
Rochdale hit miracle finish after miracle finish as the red c’s departed on each foray forward from the team who were in the relegation zone , yet all the time they looked sooooo shit I thought we were always in it and ended up disappointed with a draw.
Well I fucking should be it’s against another shit team
11 points from 11 games, 3 points from the last 5 games, utter dog shit .
We are having a mare with injuries but I genuinely don’t believe we are as shit as this 11 game run is .
Bowyer has to turn it around and get the players playing to their maximum because it’s such a shit league we can still make the play offs , can he do it? Well the current answer is looking more and more like no with each passing game .
At least we’re still 5th

We gave 25 games left. If we can get Famewo & Innis back by start of Feb then with 20 games to go we could mount a bit of a charge. 7 of our last 8 games are against teams currently in the top 10 and are therefore the proverbial 6-pointer. Win all of them & we might just sneak into the play offs.1

Could not believe when someone said "Charlton are the leading goal scorers in League One." Wow it's true.
