In my opinion not having a crowd has helped me enjoy the snooker more. There's no distraction from the table, with people moving about, wearing football shirts or coughing.
The shoot out i never liked because it was getting a bit too like the darts.

I could say i am in two minds, as i have gone on the odd occasion. Personally it feels a bit odd, similar to footy with the no crowd, fake crowd noises and as its at the same place every week its become a bit mundane.

The shootout, is always one of those good for entertainment, but i do not think it should be ranking as its essentially a different game. In the past its also made a massive difference to someone getting into the World Championship or an event like Champions of Champions, however the novelty factor and the crowd is one of those annoying things but also a way to get other people interested in snooker as a good day out similar to the darts.

So i am on the fence alot, but i would recommend it for any casual fans really no need to be interested in snooker as with the short format, shot clock it always creates alot of drama. Kind of nice not hearing people shout out, but the fake noise is kind of silly.
  • In case anybody is unsure of the rules.

Yeah I don't understand why they persist with the fake crowd noise. Everyone knows there's no-one there but they keep doing it as if too fool us into thinking there is.
  • Rebecca Kenna wasn’t happy when she got timed out and said she didn’t hear the beeps.
  • why, because the crowd were too loud?
  • She was just saying to the ref there were no beeps
  • As someone only just getting into Snooker, I love the concept of the Shoot Out.

Something to break the mould of the regular tournaments. Shame the pay-out for it isn’t high enough to attract some of the top players
  • watching it now and @johnnybev1987 i see what you mean. Crowd cheers for a pot. bloody ridiculous.

  • And two in the semi.
  • The winner Ryan Day, a great tournament, much better without the noisy audience.
  • Doug Mountjoy, one of Wales' greatest ever snooker players, has died at the age of 78.

He was a World Championship runner-up in 1981, one of only six Welshmen to reach snooker's biggest contest.

The former coal miner might have won even more tournaments, but did not turn professional until he was 34.

Mountjoy began his professional career by winning the 1977 Masters tournament and is also one of only four Welsh players to win the UK Championship.

Seven-time world champion Stephen Hendry will make his snooker comeback at next month's Gibraltar Open.
  • Jimmy white v Ronnie at moment
  • Williams v Highfield at the moment, must be the weirdest layout of reds on a table ever.
  • apparently Hendry missed out on this Welsh open due to a glitch on the online application form. seems a bit unlikely but anyway he's been meaning to come back for months now so its good that he has actually made it. As its best of 7 I'll be surprised he will go all the way through cos i would believe he must be a bit rusty.

  • was watching the Mark Williams / Hossein Vafaei last night

they played like it was the Shoot Out, they were both under 20 secs a shot
  • Mark Williams & 0'Sullivan have both looked very good so far, looks like they will meet in the semi-final.
