Murty is Community Player of 2008

Graeme Murty has won the PFA Player in The Community Award at the 2009 Football League Awards incorporating FourFourTwo's Top 50 Football League Players.

Murty received the award at a gala dinner at Grosvenor House, Park Lane on Sunday evening in front of more than 800 attendees from clubs, sponsors and the football industry.

Murts, pictured with PFA Chairman Chris Powell, said, "There's not much recognition for players going into schools and working with youngsters, but it's important work that's making a contribution to children's lives.

Love to see Murty in div three for us next season as player/coach.

It won't happen, though. We can't afford him and even if Reading don't make him club captain again next season, they'll give him some official role and pay him 300 per cent more than we can.

He's also still too good a player for div three and you can take it as read that he'd rather sit on the bench for them v Man U as senior pro than start for us v Brentford.

He came to us to get fit and credit to him - he gave his old mate Parky his all. But throughout his time as a Charlton player he was doing a weekly podcast on Radio Berkshire on how Reading had got on in their last game and the prospects for their next match. I listened to a couple of them and he never mentioned the fact that he was actually playing for another team in the same division once!
  • I thought he won it for trying to help a lost cause :-)
