Sounds like a solid player, and very pleased to have got this one done, hearing the Sunderland lot dissing him and saying that they didn't rate him is good enough for me, welcome George to the club, now on to the next half a dozen eh.

Sounds like a younger player to do the Darren Pratley job.

Nah, he's here for his energy and pace. Let's hope we get some skill, subtlety and ball control alongside him
    He's not pacy.

If we use him right, he'll be the sit in front of the back 4, get the ball, give it to someone else type player.  I see him as the competition for Watson.

Happy with this signing. He has good experience at this level in number of games played.

Just seen he's an ex Brentwood school lad.
  • Sunderland fans think Matthews is awful, they are down on their club (unsurprisingly).  Some of our fans thought everyone of our players last year was awful.

Sounds promising, did well everywhere except Sunderland, young, decent background.

Playing alongside Fraser, Randall, Dale and Messi he will be just fine.

Delighted with this signing. It seems that he is a Pratley replacement and can play CB if needed. I can now see why Darren was released and at 23 he reduces the squad age by 13 years if seen as a direct replacement.

I followed his career after being impressed when he was at Walsall when he played against us alongside Oztumer.

As I said on the rumours thread I think it is significant that Afc Wombles improved after he signed last January and he played well in the draw at Plough Lane.

    Let's give him a chance.

We've signed plenty of players on loan from Premier clubs that have not lived up to the hype, Sanogo, Frimpong, Mavadidi, Razak, Matt Smiths.

Agreed, especially as Dobson is proven at this league and has a lot of games behind him

Have missed shouting out at games ‘Go on Georgie Boy’ to an Essex midfielder, so this is a welcome addition

Proper footballers name too, none of that Carlos Kickaball nonsense.
Probably has spam sandwiches as a prematch meal. 💪👍
    Great signing 🤷‍♂️🤞😉

Good signing in my books. Replaces Pratley and a good age, surprised it’s only a two year deal but maybe that’s what he wanted. Hopefully we play to his strengths and have technical players around him.

I would hope he can play a decent 20-yard pass with accuracy at least
Former Arsenal and West Ham youth player suggests he’s not grown up playing hoofball.

No idea why but have a good feeling about this signing. A bit of energy in the middle and hopefully we can supplement with some additional midfield signings

Most players appear to fail at Sunderland nowadays, so scratching that and focusing on what he has done elsewhere WH U21s, Walsall and Wimbledon. Appears a real workmanlike DM, all good teams need one or two of those these days. Wish him luck and cannot wait to see him play live. The build continues…

Although he wouldn't have played through the Arsenal and West Ham academies if he couldn't control and pass a football.

Edit: Just seen that @Scoham has just beaten me to it!

Yep, we're building a team. If he fits into that and enables the team to be greater than it's sum of parts, he's doing his job.

My youngest will be pleased there's a George in the team .
Another piece in the jigsaw for the team that will be blowing this league out of the water .
Properly buzzing and up for it now with this mouthwatering prospect who Sunderland didn't want in their pursuit of  4th spot last season

    8% top two
    75% play offs
    17% let's not go there

He doesn't look slow in this

Reminds me of Carrick for Swindon.  He did alright for himself.

Bit of a mixed bag regarding oppo fans take on him.
Sunderland fans seem a bit divided, whereas Wimbledon fans rated him very highly.
Watch this space as the saying goes.
