S Curran always seems to grab an important wicket or two, which is always a handy thing to have in one of your bowlers.

We've dropped 1 in 4 slip catches since 1st Jan 2019. NZ have dropped 1 in 10. That is a massive difference in terms of winning and losing games.

This is turning into one of those maddening games where we get back into it, then the tail wags and bangs us square on the nut.

England bowling well without luck. Broad seems to be off the field. Bodes badly

No insightful comments on the game but lovely to be back at a test match today.

Trent Bridge is a nice ground, though quite small when compared to the other main Test grounds. Nottingham is a good place to visit too

Zak Crawley looks a shell of the player he was last summer. Definitely needs some county games to get back in the swing.

The whole England team look 50% of what they should be.

Maybe the tours in lockdown conditions have really taken their toll.

Play whoever's in form and not dogged by demons. Get Vince and Hameed in there

The problem now is which one of the top 3 should be replaced by Hameed for the next game.

All down to Silverwood, he can't share the blame with Ed Smith now

Sibley the man in possession and also the man who could make a score today. I know we're all sick of him but he does have this last shot...

It isn't down to Silverwood though. The ECB is to blame

He's not responsible for the lack of red ball cricket or the 100, but he does have the responsibility for picking the squad and side

Crawley has batted 28 times for England and averages 28.34. That in itself isn't good enough but if one takes out that one score of 267, it drops to 18.80. In fact, since that massive score, he has batted 14 times and amassed 156 runs in total at an average of 11.14

As a Kent fan I want Crawley to do well for England. Growing up I loved to see the likes of Luckhurst, Denness, Woolmer, Knott, Underwood etc etc doing so. But he is more of a white ball player than he is a red ball one at the moment and he won't be the latter until he focuses on that.

Really enjoyed the morning session..there really is nothing like test cricket. The skipper must now go on and make a big century now..he has everything in his favour..he mustnt do one of airy fairy shots and get out for a fluent 60 odd .Sibley just has to carry on doing what he does.

It would be good to get the Indian pace bowlers to bowl lots of overs..I am not sure they have the stamina for it ...

The key is root he must bat the whole of the next session

good solid battling by England this morning .. love or loath him, at least Sibley always shows a lot of grit and determination .. but he really needs to develop some more run scoring strokes

Sibley is fine with Root, as Root is such a busy player who scores quickly without taking risks

All of the top 3 are at risk, when you consider players with similar averages being dumped after far fewer games

Well, Sibley ate up 130 balls. Enough to secure his spot? Let's hope not

Sorry way to go for Sibley...if he takes so long to get 27 he must have the ability to press on ...boycott he isn't

India set the trap and Bairstow falls right into it.

Siraj reminds me of Wade, all mouth and not much talent/speed to back it up.

Maybe I am being a little too fussy but that's two wickets and two send offs from India this session
    .poor

Bairstow must be wanting to kick every cat from kingdom come at the moment. Great shame he was batting well.

Root batting well..needs to score 150

Bairstow is consistent if nothing else
