Championship side may bid as well if they feel they could be ready this season and not next season. The agents will definitely make it clear their client is open to offers.
A four year contract would be unlikely to have been our opening Gambit for Charlie Kirk but once the so called interest from Sheff utd came about ( true or false ?) Cafc would be forced to give the best deal possible and increase the years if that helps to get the deal over the line.0 -

Having watched the video of Kirk & having read what Crewe fans have said I'd say we need an attacking LB to overlap with Kirk & also a poacher to finish off the chances he creates. He puts a lot of balls across the 6 yard line & would be a shame to see them go to waste.
As for Morgan. I see him more as a playmaker as his passing is pretty decent....but he is not a finisher & I doubt he'd get more than a couple of goals a season. Not enough composure & not a natural striker if the ball.
All in all, another 3 or 4 players and we should be sorted.

A quick note for those saying we need more additions (which I quite agree with)... we now have only two senior squad places remaining unless we see exits (Dempsey, Davison, Schwartz). We have four matchday loan places left which can stretch that but any incoming player needs to be born pre 2000 to qualify as an U21 and not eat into our two spots. Goalkeepers (of any age) do not count.2

On the topic of clubs being tight due to covid, since when has revenue from fans attending games ever influenced the ridiculous amounts of cash they are willing to speculate with..?0

Need another right sided centre back as Inniss wont last injury free. I've been in contact with my Coventry supporting mate at work. Matt Godden was out injured for most of last season with a mystery foot issue, something about the sole being damaged. He's still out now, so don't think we should go for him at all!

No.1 priority is a left back. - Purrington is solid but can overlap Kirk and deliver, so I'm saying a prem loan as priority will be to have 2 wing back type.
I can see us getting away with signing another 3 - 2 at a push on top of a LB if Schwartz isn't washed up and we think Deji can do a job.
For real depth we need to have more, but so far we have only signed players we want and I like that policy even if we do miss out more often.

Disagree. Attacking central midfield is where we need to prioritise. We need a playmaker. I’d rather spend big on that position than get in a LB when we know Purrington won’t let us down. I know I’m probably in a minority in my thinking here, but in the second half of last season Purrington was a better left back for us than Maatsen was. I’m not saying it’s not important to get another, especially as he isn’t fit at the moment. But if you ask me where I feel we’re lacking at the moment, it’s definitely in the scoring department as opposed to conceding. Gunter did a fine job covering on Saturday.
This for me makes offensive signings more urgent than defensive ones before deadline day.20 -
Purrington is solid. Don't forget he was our left back when we went up. If he has someone dynamic in front of him (Kirk perhaps) it will dramatically improve his performances. He is also capable of scoring the odd goal, something we could do with. I would be happy enough with him being first choice.6

I think with the way we are looking to play, LB will be an attacking option as we need someone to overlap Kirk, much like Pickering did at Crewe. It's a crucial part of the modern attacking game, and whilst Purrington is a solid LB I'd prioritise this position and have him as the Gunter of the left, a really solid defender that you can bring in when you need to keep things tight. Once gilby is back I think our regular midfield will be Dobson, Clare and Gilby. I think that would be a great midfield and think Gilby & Clare will get goals. CB I think Deji will be cover. That would be a huge mistake IMO. Gilbey started to show what he had last season once Adkins came in. He looked good but he’s not a playmaker. I would like to see someone that makes the team tick. That’s the key for me.
