My post is not suggesting avoiding the legends game. It is a mild comment about the folk contemplating the formal anniversary celebrations and their degree of memory or inclusion.1

I'm pretty sure that it was more than an idea, both noades & fryer were keen & advanced talks were in place to create a "South London Superclub" & I understand it was pretty close to happening. I can't remember where i read this but it was sometime after, could have been Airmans excellent Battle for the Valley.cantersaddick said:

I would be one of those, used to go to Selhurst with a Palace supporting buddy of mine, was always trying to convince me I should support them and then along came Charlton. You can imagine how chuffed he was when I started going to Charlton games and skipped the Palace games.clb74 said:I wonder how many supporters we gained by moving to selhurst

Sometime previous to all this, there was an article on News at Ten about a proposed move to re-start the club in Milton Keynes due to dwindling support.......we could have been the original franchise.0

B interesting to know out of those that post regularly on here, who played in the club staff v the volunteers that helped get the valley ready for the return football match. It was played at the end of that 92 season and was a thankyou from the club - I played and I think I remember Steve Dixon playing - of course there were loads of people that did a lot to help get us back that wouldn't have played but still b interesting to know0

Very dark days indeed and I honestly thought we'd never get back.
But we did and we thought it would be an end to our nightmares and a happy ever after ending.
But then Roland turned up and the "Nightmare on Floyd Road" is now showing in 3D0 -
nobody ???? we were there, painting fences, helping out with the building works - all voluntary - a real community spirit and the game was brilliant - they were great days and we can have them again - i reckon we've bottomed out and r back on the up - looking forward to tomorrow - just hope its not the usual charlton banana skin - when all is going so well we normally lose a game like this 1-0 - lets hope not and come tuesday we r top and stay there all season1

I am sure you are right. There was a Sunday Times Magazine feature with Noades where he bangs on about this. Absolutely chilling, it was. Pretty sure I have a copy tucked away somewhere.charltonbob said:

Of course, despite all the words, we were never equal partners at Sellout. I recall a home game against Palace where Noades demanded they have the home end. They didn't end up getting it, but it said it all. I went to all the games there, but what also said it all was that so many didn't and we were getting 4.5k in the top division! It taught me that you could get success from protest as I have to admit I was resigned to never returning home.2

Bizarrely, I became an Addick because of the move to Sell Out. Born and bred in Peckham and my Grandad, Dad and me all watched Dulwich Hamlet, until a mate at Secondary school asked if I wanted to go watch Charlton vs Arsenal (1987) at Sell Out (lost 0-3) and been hooked ever since. Even converted my Dad!6

Still go over Dulwich when I can. But the hipsters are rather annoying. Preferred it with only 200 there so I could stroll around the ground a pick up a cuppa without any queues!1

I didn’t go to the Valley in those days, Bruv went on his own.
I would be at home waiting, writing down all the football scores for him so he could check his pools coupon.
I remember his reaction. I remember him being so angry at the supporters who stole the hallowed turf. I remember him saying we’d be back & need that turf.
So thankfully moving to Sellout coinciding with me getting a job & having my own money.
I started going on my own with my then boyfriend.
It was only after a few seasons that Dad said he wanted to start going again regularly & Bruv offered to drive us all.
I honestly believe if social media had been around then the fan base would have been more divided. I used to get some serious stick down the pub for going to Sellout. I understood why. But everyone needed to do their bit.4 -
