The Death of Denny Doherty Got Me Thinking

Only one of the Mamas and Papas left now. So many groups from the last 40 years or so have lost one or two members. It's almost as if you're not real Rock 'n Roll unless one of you band dies.
Beatles - Only two left.
The Who - Ditto
Stones - Brian Jones
Led Zep - John Bonham
Sweet - Brian Connoly and Mick Tucker
Mud - Les gray and the drummer
Beach Boys - Two dead
Free - Paul Kossoff
AC/DC Bonn Scott
And loads more.
Can you imagine any of todays pretenders ( they've lost a couple too!) having the bottle to die? I guess Pete Doherty is trying but then his music is crap anyway.
I bet Liam and Noel would love one of their band to die just to give them some sort of cred.

Die young, have a pretty corpse.
  • Lynyrd Skynyrd - Ronnie Van Zant /Steve Gaines / Cassie Gaines

    The list goes on.

Let's go back almost 50 years if we want to include Buddy Holly and Eddie Cochran.

    What about T-Rex?

    Mark Bolan and Micky Finn.

I remember interviewing Mickey on Millennium one Saturday Morning - Talk about out of it! We rang him at 11.00am and got told to feck off as we weren't paying him, quick call to his agent and we got him on the phone. He couldn't remember a thing about the 70's. A walking advert for what a little too much of what you fancy does to you!

We're more cynical these days, mind - would anyone really miss Pete Doherty?

I keep reading several of you saying all modern music is crap and then see you pick out your favourites from the past - there was, is and always will be, loads more crap around than good stuff. There are still a few people putting out good stuff these days! Real talent should be hard to find. Sorry, mini-rant over.

I think that was just me being controversial. I agree with you though.
