September 2016 I was on a golf trip in Portugal (ex footballers and cricketers ) and Paul Walsh was in my four ball/golf cart and I had a pleasant round with him .He was a gentleman and spoke well of his time at Charlton (his old man an Addick iirc) and throughout the whole trip , 4-5 days, he’d be there socialising on coffee at 3 in the morning Talking to battered and pissed punters when he could have easily slipped off from the bars earlier .
His son had a booze problem and he was laying off the alcohol to help get him through it .
He was good as gold .
Robert Lee I’ve seen on these trips a few times and been to a lunch with him and he’s another one who loves us and he hates Pardew more than any Charlton fan .22 -
I'd prefer it if his brother was on the show............

Lyle Taylor despite being Born in Greenwich was a big Lyle Taylor fan, and that would be why he always put his hero ahead of any team loyalties.
But what I (and probably many others) find hard to stomach is when players like Paul Walsh and Rob Lee never, ever acknowledge their time at Charlton or that the club helped them on their way. it's like we never existed. Or they would just prefer to forget about us.
It's really not that hard to offer the occasional nod in our direction.
He's absolutely the opposite of those two and speaks well of Charlton on a regular basis.6 -

Maybe Paul Walsh can redeem himself with certain fans as he will be reaching the milestone of 60 in October 22, and like many of us, age, wisdom, and raising a family will make (or break us !)so for Paul let's hope the prodigal son returns to the Charlton family where he was an awesome talent.
Scott Minto on the other hand was always mature for his age and was articulate and at 21ish was humble but so approachable and friendly, Carl Leaburn and Kim Grant were quiet as Scott similar to his days at Sky and now on Charlton TV, talked about being a pro footballer in a department store in Bromley.4 -

They played GAA together for a short time.
I never really took much notice of him then, far too young for all that.
He went out with my besties sister for a while.
Again, will watch with interest.

Isn't just Charlton fans who are overly sensitive and precious about former players forgetting to mention us. I was talking to a Palace friend of mine and apparently Ian Wright isn't very well thought of for a similar reason, I mean, I love Ian Wright and I fucking detest Palace so maybe there is something in that

Used to drink in The Jolly Drayman back in the day, he seemed ok - sure his group were mainly spanners, but, some decent ones amongst them. Never heard of him "larging it" he would of been 18/19 and in the team. Was at a wedding that he had been invited to - a Liverpool player by then - looked fantastic and wealthy, but was quiet and good company.0

Thought he was really good on TV yesterday. A natural media man and obviously experienced in front of the camera. Refreshingly honest about not being up to speed on the league or the team. Insightful on the game itself.6

I was in an exec box Curbs stand yesterday for the Plymouth match - Charlton TV in box next to us - after they had finished filming, Curbs, Scott and Paul Walsh came out to walk down the stand to go over West Stand - I was waiting to ambush them (!!) - I called across and asked for a photo, and then I pointed at Paul Walsh (who looked a bit concerned with me pointing at him), and I said ‘when I was 9, 10, 11, you were my hero, I was gutted when you left Charlton’ - he said ‘that’s really nice of you to say that, thank very much’

Both Paul and Mark have a different memory of the transfer which doesn't surprise me, as owners know everyone has a price, (Paul should've gone for a million at least, plus player)
Of course Paul wanted to play higher but I'm sure he would have stayed as he knew the top division clubs would come calling within months if his transfer to Luton didn't happen.
* Bumped into Mark Stuart at London Bridge station after training, when he was going home to west London. Mark told me he was moving into a house which he had purchased nearer to the training ground in Kent. A month after this he was transferred to Plymouth who I believe were 1 division below.
Players were traded at will without their true consent in many cases, as they were told they would rot in the reserves at that time if they didn't move on.
Player power now with agents demanding the earth but that wasn't the case pre Bosman.0 -

The heads when I was there (68-75) in order were JD Fyfe, Basil Barker, and as I left Cecil Roberts who had been deputy throughout and finally got the headship.
