Former Academy keeper James Beadle - training with England 1st team (p10)

Obviously a no brainer for Brighton for less than 1m but they do already appear to have a number of decent young keepers:
Their first choice Sanchez is only 24.
Dutch backup keeper signed from Ajax who is only 21.
One who is 20 and on loan at Walsall who was called up for England U21s a couple of months ago.
Another academy keeper who has played for England U19s.
And finally the keeper the other night for Ipswich (Walton) who probably stopped it being 4-0 is on loan from Brighton.
From what i've read Beadle certainly has the talent to go all the way, but it's not as if he's got an easy path to their first team.7 -

Maybe he’d have stayed for £10k a week and guaranteed first team football within a year. Would you want an owner to throw silly money at a teenager who’s not even a regular in the u23s yet?
I expect over time TS will do a better job of keeping young players for longer and getting a good fee when they do go, but it’s not realistic to think we’ll keep well known England youth internationals while we’re in League 1.
Get to the Championship and category 1 then we’ll improve our chances.19 -
Would be good. As good a prospect as he was,he was nowhere near our first team,we are well blessed with good keepers,and while it is always annoying when young players leave,we could never match what Brighton will pay him.He is 17,that is likely 5-6 years before he was a regular in our or any other team,the money we got for him will hopefully be re invested ,and any future add ons will help the club in years to come.2

Love the outrage, but how long would you expect him to stay? He's nowhere near the first team and we got a fee, seems the best deal all round personally. Exactly. 600-700k (this is a guess) that could now be spent on a striker in January or put towards paying that bit extra in wages for a premier league youngster on loan could give us an edge, especially when most of league one are still struggling financially post-covid.shine166 said:

This was my concern, there's a lot of keepers on their books , Walton is 26 and has barely played for them , just been loan after loan after loan. And they've got Jason Steele as senior backup too.0 -

It's disappointment, not outrage. I like to see the youth sign up and stay to break into the first team is all.
A concern of the viability of our Academy if players leave also seems reasonable to me.
As for the money being in "our pot", let's see in January but I often read on here that we lose £5-10M pa so if we have an upfront fee of somewhere near a million quid I personally would not be making assumptions that it will go into a transfer pot.3 -
Not sure I understand this move being for coaching and opportunity reasons... Perhaps there's more to it but as someone stated above, Brighton have a buttload of keepers, aren't in the top 20 for producing Premier League players and meanwhile we're equal with Barcelona.

A chance meeting at a non League game with a Charlton insider back in August confirmed that Brighton were favourites for James Beadle's signature as they had been monitoring him for quite a while.
I also learnt about all the other talented kids with the then 17 year olds Deji and Burstow; who I had seen in youth matches, being the stand outs also 16 year old Daniel Kanu( now 17) who I have also heard about from Ralfi Hand who joined CAFC recently. Ralfi knew Daniel from a early age when they both played for a Kent school boy side.
Being a 17 year old keeper Beadle wasn't going to get the Jersey in the next year at Cafc and he will carry on now with the specialist keeper training at Premier Brighton.
A long road ahead for James Beadle, maybe he will come back when we are in the Premier !
Thankfully it wasn't Chelski.
Freddie Woodman: ex England youth keeper took 7 years from 17 years old to finally make his debut for his parent club Newcastle, after loans in Scotland, Crawley, and two full seasons at Swansea.

If Beadle wasn't a keeper, he would've more chance of a first team debut by 17 or 18, at Cafc similar to Mason Burstow and Deji Elerewe.
Pope was being rejected by Ipswich at a similar age and starting again at his local non League club in Bury St Edmunds before coming to Cafc at 19.0 -

This is why the news on Cat 1 status is so important and why I was so surprised that news got such a muted response.
According to TS last night we have the 14th best academy. I wasn't at the fans forum so assume this means the 14th most productive but not sure how that is being measured or by whom.
If we're that high up in league one with the disasterous ownership issues where could we go with Cat 1?14 -
I note Brighton are not on that list, however if James has to leave then Brighton is a nicer club than most.
Whatever happened to (what was always a myth anyway) the notion that Chrystal Pals of Lice produces reckonable players?

Have not read all of the comments but apparently Beadle has had several premiership offers.
What can you do; you cannot offer wages to an eighteen year old that exceeds probably what some senior players are getting.
Rumoured he will be getting about 9k a week.0 -
We have greater protection against poaching, get bigger compensation if it does happen, can recruit at an earlier age and from anywhere in the country, not just our "catchment" area, will be more attractive to boys and parents because we are Cat 1.cafcfan1990 said:

He was sold for a fee, nobody lost anyone. You cant keep literally every player than signs at 12, although we know that and this can be another excuse to moan about TS.

I think TS has done a good job of getting youngsters to sign so far, but there will always be those that will refuse and go elsewhere. Don't know anything about this lad but he's well down our pecking order and will be at Brighton. But, from his point of view it protects him financially for a good few years. Good luck to him I guess, but it's disappointing to see us lose a player without him starting a game. At least we got some kind of fee. Not sure how we negotiated this, as surely Brighton would want to pay as little as possible under the EPPP? Maybe they offered more to fend off other clubs and the lad really wanted to go there?1

Nathan Baxter of Chelsea, but last season at Accrington and now at Hull is probably a good example of modern day goalkeeping development.

At the end of the day, we now have a better England team. You can argue whether EPPP is the reason or not, but the big clubs are producing quality youngsters now, technically excellent and doing it at the highest level.Henry Irving said:

We may be bottom of that league, but no other academy at our level has produced as many current PL players as ours. In addition, a good number of higher level (PL & Champ) clubs have only produced 5 or less!
