I saw that at the top of the thread list and froze. Absoutely gutted. I knew about his illness - which is very much in my family, we mailed privately about it - but not at all that it had gone so far.I only briefly met Nick in person once but feel his loss very keenly. As AFKA says, we would spar a lot on here, but behind the scenes there was a very different persona.
So I only really know him as a fan, but I can say this, Charlton had no bigger and more committed fan than Nick. He was up for every campaign. On one occasion following how the Dossier trail had led to Brookenby ex - airfield, he dropped in on the local planning office in Louth, and sent through a load of interesting plans which helped us work out which ones belonged to Paul Elliott.Rest in peace, warrior.35 -

This is just such sad sad news.
A devastating loss to his family and a big loss to Charlton Life, a real larger than life character. I also knew him from back in the Net Addicks days. He was always friendly and I always enjoyed reading his posts. Actually I think he was on many boards as I do know one Palace fan and he was talking about this wind up Charlton fan on their forum - we then discovered he was talking about Nick.
If you hadn't met him personally, I am sure many of you feel like you do know him - you can tell the man he was just by the quality of his posts. I loved him, I thought he was a superb character.
I think I last saw him outside the Market Porter after Wembley. That is sad. My condolences to you Ben and your family.
RIP Nick you absolute legend.

Oh what sad news that is. Enjoyed reading his posts on here for many a year he was a top quality member of this community. Glad he got to see his grandson near the end, must have made him very proud. Respects and thoughts to the family.
I met and shared some beers with Nick on the first CL WW1 coach trip organised by Clive/Neal (or may have been the Belgium march) late into the evening and had looked out for his posts moreso afterwards.

So sad, I knew this was on the cards, but that doesn't make it feel any easier.
I've known Nick on nodding terms for about 45 years and spoke to him a number of times in the last 5 years.
Taken far too early.
RIP Nick and my heartfelt condolences to his family and close friends.7 -
